I have two computers that I'm trying to hook up and access the internet with at the same time. Each computer has it's own modem. However, both modems are feeding from the same phone cord in this room (if that should matter). Anyway, I can only get one or the other to access the internet, not both at once. Could my ISP (Verizon) somehow have me limited to how many computers I can hook up? Or, could this one phone cord possibly not be enough to carry the load of both of them? Anyone have any ideas? It's always been my understanding that you can hook up multiple (many more than two) computers via this method. I can't figure it out. I've tried everything I can think of Any and all ideas, suggestions, etc., will be most appreciated. dawsontimothy

- I have Verizon DSL highspeed coming in via my phone line. I do not have dial up ISP. The modem(s) are/were provided by Verizon. They are both the Westell Wirespeed Liteline 6100 Modems.

- The solution addresses my situation and problem inaccurately. I do not have dial up for one thing, among others.
It is not possible to have 2 computers using one phone line at the same time.... However, you can use what's called internet sharing. You will need a network card for both computers, a cross over cable to plug each computer together and then one of the computers will connect to the dial up source.
Be prepared for really bad performance on both computers. You are more than cutting your speed in half by doing this.
If you have the option for DSL or cable I highly suggest you take that approach and save alot of frustration.
Please rate my solution and thanks for using FixYa,
Good Luck

- Where in your original question do you say you are using DSL? You say phone cord. When you say you are using modems and phone cords it can be understood as dial up. If you want an "appropriate" answer you must supply the right information.
