Sounds like a brake issue, youll need to replace the brake to stop the squeak. problem with this is the brake is loaceted on this machine under a "high tension" spring nad in order to remove and replaceit youll need a specialized brake removal tool. GOTTA LOVE MAYTAG. so the cost to purchace the bake and the tool to do the job may out weighthe cost of someone doing the job for you..just like your car thought its a sqeaky brake, JUST ANNOYING to listen to but no real harm being done

My MAV8600AWW top load washer makes a loud steady squeal whining noise in spin cycle. Load size doesn't affect noise. Machine is 7 years old. Any guess as to problem?
Maytag had problems with the berrings on the transmission . water gets in and the berring goes bad rorring as it spins. Dump it and get a Whirlpool.
