Question about Sharp AL 1631 Copier

Sharp AL-1631 copies very light at top only

My Sharp AL-1631 copies are very light at the top 1/4 of the page only. I had Sharp on the phone and after a bit of troubleshooting, he said I would have to send the unit in for service. We can live without the copier, but working a large company, I know it will be quite a hassle to get my purchasing dept, shipping dept, etc involved. Do you have any sugesstions? I'm not opposed to taking the machine apart a bit to get to the bottom of this. Just as a side note: 99% of our copies are onto Avery labels that are fed manually. Thanks!

The machine is reading 2746 copies. I'm not sure what you mean by the fuser sticking. When the warming up, it produces a rough clicking noise. Users have mentioned before that many times it would jam on the first copy then be OK. I have just replaced both the toner and drum to see if that would help. I was sure to use genuine Sharp products as mentioned earlier. Is there anything else I can do?

How many copies on tha machine? Hold the clear button down for 10 seconds and watch the counter led. Most of these I work on have problems with the fuser sticking. Does it sometimes click then jam? Also, if you are filling your own cartridge be sure to order developer along with your toner.

If when the machine clicks and causes a jam, take the paper tray out and you will notice that the feed tires are not in their home position then I would look at cleaning the clutch on the end of the paper feed assembly shaft. It can be removed without pulling covers by taking the E clip off the end and carefully working the shaft out. I clean these clutches with acohol and then lube them with a light grease. Vasoline will work but silicone is better. The sticking fuser I was taking about, I have seen the "Bearings" on the ends of the upper fuser roller "The hard one" get so gunked up with paper yuck & Toner that it causes the fuser rollers to drag and the drive mechanism in that copier is not strong enough to keep from slipping a gear. If this machine is under warranty or you can get it fixed by Sharp for under $150.00 send it in.

Main thing is to absolutely use genuine Sharp toner and drum supplies. After that, probably lamp is not responding are activating quickly enough. Caused by main board or high voltage power supply.

I’m happy to help further over the phone at

Sharp AL 1631 is flashing 1 L. What does that

This might refer to your scanner assy being locked. The scanner assy is the unit under the glass that scans your document prior to copying it. Look inside the cavity where you pick up your completed copies. Look at the upper left corner and see if there is a knob there. If there is, make sure it is in the completely unlocked position.

Sharp Al 1631 prints half a page

Sometimes the originals hesitate using the document feeder, which can cause the problem you are describing. Do you get the same rsults if you lay the original on the glass?

Sharp AL-1631 - would not copy.

Your unit definetly needs a new drum. The usual yield for this consumable is upt ot 15,000 pages, so at the stated rate, the unit yielded more than average. AL-1000 series share the same toner and drum, so finding remanufactured (or recycled) drum units should be no problem. In Puerto Rico, they are sold for about $79.00.
