I bought a notebook from a co worker that only used it to back up pictures I have since taken them off but i want to reload the computer to get rid of anything of theirs i missed and to start over fresh but i dont want to lose the windows 7 os or the mircosoft word etc. I never got any disc with it and there is a way on the computer itself i can reload it but im scared to do that anyway the notebook is a emachine em250 kav60 has windows 7 starter on it..
IF you have a Recovery Partition, you can do a Factory Recovery, returning the Laptop to the day it came out of the box. Take a look at the eMachine website for info on a Factory Recovery from recovery partition: http://emachines-us.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934

The best thing to do is borrow a Win XP cd from a friend and do the following:
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your applications, it just re installs the Windows files. This is great because when it works and you don't need to reinstall all your software.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I also purchased two of these computers. I wiped the HDD and installed Win7 Ultimate. I could not get the wireless NIC driver to install. My solution was to use another wireless USB NIC and use Windows Update, Voila everything was fine. Iam writing this post with one of them. I am somewhat confused by your post referring to a Broadcom NIC. Both of my machines have AtherosAR5B5 wireless network adapters and Atheros AR9132 PCI-e Fast Internet Comtrolers. Broadcom has always meant Bluetooth driver to me, but I may be mistaken about that.
I have always thought of eMachines as being the cheapest in both price and quality but I did a rather extensive investigation on netbooks in general and could not find and justification for spending twice as much for a more popular name brand with basically the same capacities.
I don't know how to do one to one assistance on this site, but if you can figure it out I would be more than willing to help you. I am very pleased with these two netbooks!

If your webcam image rotated, install the driver.

SOURCE: i am unable to start up my emachine em250 netbook.
The most common problem occurs when there is an incompatible device installed or a device that interferes the boot up of Windows.
If you have recently installed a new device in your computer please remove it and also remember to remove all of the USBs attached to the computer. Basically nothing except the Power source should be connected while you are booting up your computer. You can install the USB devices once your computer has loaded up.

SOURCE: How can i Reset BIOS
CTo reset the BIOS read the information from this link.
In case of your Acer laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.
