The 79.04 error is usually caused by an IO port such as parallel or ethernet. If you have an ethernet port in this printer it is likely in the form of an HP JetDirect card. Turn printer off, remove this card and restart and your error will likely be gone. If the card has a model # 615N, throw it as far away from your printer as you can and buy a new card.
Thank you for contacting FixYa with your printer inquiry.
This is an error caused by the jet direct card in your printer, try one of two things.
Move the Jet Direct card from port 1 to port 2 on the printer.
Replace your jet direct card with one that you know is good.
Test to see if either of these resolves the issue.
The problem is usually a faulty card. J7934-69011
JetDirect 620n internal print server - 10BaseT and 100BaseTX LAN interface board - Plugs into peripheral EIO slot - Has an RJ-45 connector
Replace the Jetdirect Card. You probably have a 615N version and HP recalled them years ago with a free upgrade to the 620N. Google the Jetdirect 620N to locate a refurb. it should run you about $150
Is the jetdirect card part number a 615n? If so, replace it with a 620N. The 615 cards were bad from the get go. Hp recalled them for about a year providing free upgrades to the 620.
Is the 615n an internal print server not one in the EIO slot. From memory if so it has a really high failure rate. Try getting JetDirect cards for EIO slots and seeing if they work.
To have an IP address for the printer you must either have a HP4200n or install a Jetdirect card into the printer. The Jetdirect or "N" version of the printer with the built in Jetdirect holds the network IP address. Subnet Mask, Gateway Derfault and handles the networking functions. If you have a 4200n or Jetdirect installed it will print out on the configuration page.
The standard HP 4200 doesn't have the networking capability without adding the card. In the event that you have a card installed and its not recognizing the card on the configutation page it may be bad. The HP 615n cards are known to have burn out issues. If you have to install a card to upgrade your printer, I recommend a HP 620n or better to get around the known bad issues with the 615n cards.
