Question about Epson Stylus CX7800 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Scanner stopped on my Epson Stylus CX7800

When I try to scan or copy something on my CX7800 it prints all black, as if the scanner is not picking up anything. The light is working and moving. The glass is clean. I can print from my PC. I am at my wits end. It worked the last time I used it (few weeks back), but not now. Any ideas?

    The scanner light works and it moves. When the page prints, only approx. 1/2" on each side appears. The rest of the page looks like static on a television. We have installed it again and tried everything we know. Can you help.

    my epson scanner does the same it will not scan i cant see anything except alittle on each side when it copies or scans

We have installed drivers again and tried everything. Thinking of replacing the scanner head but have not located parts yet. Repairs at service centers will cost as much as scanner. What a disappointment. Anyone have an epson cx7800 that has a functional scanner but printer gone? Im interested.

    Exact same problem as described by everyone here -- static covers the entire page except for a 1/2" strip of printing. I've cleaned the glass, the printheads, and reinstalled the software. I also wrote Epson's online technical support explaining everything. They have not answered, let alone even acknowledged receipt of my email. Now I see that it appears to be a chronic problem with the 7800. No wonder they didn't answer me! Has anyone replaced the bulb or bulb mechanism?

    I also, had the same problem. my cx7800 started to scan with black and colored lines across 3/4th of the page. I finally solved the problem. Try downloading the new twain driver

    1. TWAIN Driver and epson Scan Utility v2.73A
      Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98SE

    2. Find your epson scanner drivers from the install disk. delete them.

    3. Thenclick on the zip file 11577.exe to unzip the files from epson and install in the epson folder for your scanner.

    4. Then open up your printer properties and click the advance tab, then click on new driver. Welcome to the new driver wizard pops up, follow the prompts to add the driver, make sure to show your printer type and model.

    5. It will them tell you that you are about to add a new driver for epson Stylus CX7800 Series, Intel, Windows 2000 or XP. then click finish.

    6. This is the tideous part. Click on the scan icon on your desktop. Check to see that vers. 2.73 is isntalled. It will show on the start up screen. Start scaning in one of the modes. You may need to run the scan several times in each mode. You will notice that the scan starts to change each time and the lines start to disappear. Make sure that you run the scan several times in each mode (Home, Professional and Full Auto Mode).

    Exact same problem in both scan mode on a Mac and if I try to copy directly off the flatplate. Epson's unhelpful answer was that there was a hardware problem with the scanner and I could ship it out of state to their closest certified repair facility, for more than the scanner cost, since it was two days past the warranty. Looks like a light problem because film scanning works fine. I can't find a way to replace the light element either and epson certainly isn't helping.

The real problem is that the light bulb in the flat bed has burned out. After 2 years or more this is normal......
To verify that it is the lower bulb, scan a slide or film, notice that the light bulb turns on in the lid.
This is easy to fix with a little skill with a phillips screw driver after getting the replacement part. Some patience with sticky tape and remembering to put the parts back togther correctly.

My copies and scans are coming through black as though its not scanning bright enough to pick up the print

If you try scanning with the flatbed open, can you see if the bulb lights up during scan? If not, (or if darker than usual) then your bulb is no longer good on the scanner. If the bulb is bad, it would most likely be cheaper to replace the whole scanner versus paying to repair/replace the bulb.

If the bulb is fine, I would perform a hard reset on the device. To do this: Press and HOLD all following buttons: Power, Load/Eject, Stop, B&W, Color. RELEASE BUTTONS. After this printer turns on, you'll see "Init eeprom" on printer screen. Press Color button to clear protection counter.

The drivers that are compatible with windows 2000 works with win xp too.

If you want to get the epson scanner driver for the cx7800 that is compatible with win xp, please log on to click on all in ones to the left of the page. Then click on flatbed under all in ones. Click on Epson Stylus cx7800 under 2.Then select your product to the right of the page. Click on Windows under drivers and downloads. Click on the 8th driver down which is the epson11577.exe, it says TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v2.73A, then click on download now. click on thanks i prefer not to receive this information then click on the accept button. Click on direct link to the file then run the driver.

NOTE: make sure that the scanner is off and unplugged from your computer while you're downloading the drivers.
Do not forget to uninstall the drivers too before you install the new driver.
To uninstall driver:
- Click on start.
- go to control panel
- go to add or remove programs
- highlight epson scan then click on change remove and just go ahead and remove the driver.
- then restart your computer.
- download the driver once your computer is fully booted up.

Lost epson stylus cx 7800 disk

Hi , If you have a windows XP PC then you just need to plug the USB to the pc and default printer driver will be loaded and should be fine, If its not takeing then download driver from the below link.

When scanning on my Epson CX7800, the scanner grinds and makes a lot of noise. What do i have to do to fix this. Is there some kind of greasing or lubrication that needs to be done, or a realignment?


Check if there is a lock for the scanner, normally its on the right or left handside when you open the cover for scanner. try to toggle lock and position it to unlock., try scanning again....

Go to Epson's web site. Troubleshooting Guide & follow it's instructions. They want you to uninstall & reinstall the Epson software & drivers & they want you to do this their way.

1. does scanning from the pc looks good ?
2. printing photos from the pc looks good ?
3. does standalone copy (placing image on the scanner bed then pressing the COPY button on the printer) looks good ?

Epsom CX7800 Scanner Printer

Windows XP has its own scanning software found within the control panel under scanners and cameras. This appears to provide a more direct method of controlling the scanner because it is part of the OP Sys as opposed to 3rd party scanner software. If the scanner is installed and it appears as an installed option, then try using this approach instead of the actual scanning software.that came with the scanner.
