Question about Panasonic PT-50LC13 50" Rear Projection HDTV

Open Question

Yellow tint to my panasonic PT-50LC13 screen

My LCD projection TV is approx 3 years old. I Suddenly noticed that white or very light colors turn bright yellow. If I turn down the "picture" (which is the contrast i think) the yellow starts to disappear and is totally gone when the contrast setting is at about half. This causes me to lose most of the quality from the TV. I have replaced the lamp once and keep hearing nightmare stories about this model. If it's an expensive fix, I might consider buying a plasma.... any ideas?

SOURCE: Panasonic PT-53wx42 has a greenish/yellow tint to it.

Trty re-soldering the circuit board that contains the STK convergence modules. They're on the center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8" long and 6" tall, about dead center in the circuit board. You may be able to recreate the problem (hour glass effect) by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on the heat sink. This is a caused by a minimum effort (a.k.a. minimum cost) solder job, probably done in some 3rd world sweat shop. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conduting piece of wood to push the heat sink when we doing tests. Best of luck, hope ya fix it.

That indicates your color wheel or optical block is bad. Repairs are usually pretty costly. Around 1100 to 1300 dollars. Hope this helps.

My 52'' Panasonic rear projection HDTV (PT-52LCX65-K/), has bright green and yellow spots around the outside of the screen and a purple shadow mostly noticable on faces of people. About 2.5 years old.

Symptoms like yours can be corrected by an EEPROM CORRECTION TOOL; LSUQ0100.

I believe it is not available to the public. So, call a Factory Authorized Dealer nearest to you and ask if the have tool. It takes me about 30 minutes to preform this from start to finish.

Good Luck, Big Irish.
