Hi, Yesterday I was driving my P reg. Mercedes C180 and the dashboard didn't light up. The pedometer, petrol and engine temparature guage and clock were not working. However, the radio and headlights are working. Can anyone tell em what the problem is and further more, roughly how much I can expect it to cost to fix?
Its probably the binical its self dash board that is you can check the fuses in the fuse box first though also you can take the binical out or pull it forward to make sure the scart lead type conector hasent come lose or you can take the lower panel out from under the steering wheel and put your hand up the back and have a feel there are 2 1 each side hope thus helps cheers ivan
SOURCE: Mercedes Benz C180 Fault Message Brake Assist.Visit Workshop BAS
Hi there
BAS is the Brake Assist System and if there is a malfunction it would
only come into play in an Emergency stop while applying full pressure.
BAS applies full braking force because people tend to lighten up their
pressure on the pedal in these situations. I would suggest that the best thing to do is go to a Workshop or Service Center and have it checked out. Please remember to put a good rating on my profile.
Kind regards

SOURCE: 1994 C180. Dashboard lights go almost off when headlights are turned on.
Hi,
The dashboard in the benz c180 is always good and highly illuminated.
I doubt that there may be some problem with the power to the lights present in the dashboard.
And i am sure there are no adjustment for illuminating the dashboard.
you need to call benz service centre for this problem.
Hope my info is useful,
Thanx for using fixya.
Cheers.

Hi, The best way to sort this is to take Log book/Title, proof of ownership and your identification to a Merc Dealership and they'll be only too glad to take some money off you for supplying the code.

these displays ared l.c.d. displays and what happens is over time the vacuum pack on the crystal element ruptures and get air in the tube and that part of the display is ruined permanently.I'm not sure if your saying that there are pieces missing or if the whole display is blank. If there are peices missing the only way to fix it is to repkace the instrument cluster. If they are blank it is very likley it is either the backlighting bulb or the dimmer switch. If you take a blanket and cover your display and can see the display very dimmly try replacing your back lighting bulbs- hopefully it is just your backlighting because the clusters are about 1,000 dollars and have to be special ordered with your mileage engraved in the new unit.

I have similar problem with the same type of car. It's not only the speedometer, it is also the fuel meter. But after driving some minutes, they will be back in business.
Don't you have some warning lights on your dash? MB cars are fly-by-wire that tend to depend so much on battery electricity when shut off. Use a high amps battery or battery recommended matching your car model. Check on some instruments that can be a parasitic drain to your car like, car alarm, sticking relays on auxiliary fans, radios. Worse you have a short somewhere or a wiring harness issue, but it should be giving you a warning on the dash.
