Shortcut problem after Google Chrome uninstall

Chrome is gone, but now when I click on a desktop shortcut I get a window asking what program I want to use to open that page. I have tried to delete that shortcut, open the page and issue a new shortcut but the same 'what program window' opens. I click on Internet Explorer and make sure the box is checked to always use that program...no luck I have not tried my favorites yet but if it's the same way wuth those I'll be crazy! Thanks so much for your help!!!!

Dummie me!!!!! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks a bunch!!

  • Anonymous Mar 19, 2009

I tried that with no luck. I now have a similar problem with my wife's laptop running Vista. By the way, I corrected the problem with mine by doing a system restore. I'm going to post the other issue.

Okay...I stumbled on to this fix for my problem and it worked. Go in to Internet Options-Settings then check your default browser setting. I simply changed mine to Yahoo from Google and BINGO! back to normal.

I had the same problem. Go to Tools on the menu bar in Internet Explorer. There should be an option underneath Internet Options to "restore original internet defaults". All my desktop shortcuts are working now.

Hope this helps. :)

I haven;lt used Chrome, but for the issue you have cant oyu:
1. right-clcik on the shortcut
2. Choose Properties
3. At the top OPEN WITH: does it say Internet Explorer? If not click on the change button and choose IE (or any other browser you use, FireFox ,..etc)

Chrome may of modified this setting. Changing it for this URL should change the association for others as well.

Good Luck - sorrty if misunderstood the question

How do i get activated togoole chrome

You probably still have Google Chrome on your machine. It's just the shortcut that has disappeared from your desktop.

You'll have to browse your files to create a new shortcut. Usually Chrome is installed here --> C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application
Unless of course you've chosen a different location during the install. Once you found your Chrome\Application folder you should be able to see a file called "chrome" just right click that and choose "send to" followed by "desktop" to create a new shortcut on your desktop.

Another option is to just use the shortcut from your start menu.

0xc0000005 application failed to initialized proplerly) (click on OK to terminate the application) how to uninstall google chrome. google chrome does not uninstall whenever i try to uninstall it.

this is a common windows error. if a certain application stops working like your google chrome. try to edit start up items, click on start, click run, on the run box type : msconfig. click ok. on the start up tab, click on disable all on the bottom right, hit apply or ok. it will give you a prompt to exit with restart. this is for xp, if its vista more likely the same but after restarting the computer, no prompt for system configuration utility will pop up. to unisntall the google chrom, if its xp go to add remove programs and click remvoe, if you have vista, go to program and features and uninstall it from there, if no go. use the microsoft installer clean up utility. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 just download and install it then look for it under programs and it will gie you all the programs installed on your computer, you can look for google chrome and uninstall it. that should work.

Chrome is not shiney and won't uninstall or install

You can remove Google Chrome like any other Windows program. Follow these steps: Click the Start menu on your computer taskbar.
Select All Programs.
Select Google Chrome.
Select Uninstall Google Chrome.
Click the Yes button in the confirmation dialog box.

The uninstall process will begin and all your Google Chrome browser and application shortcuts will also be removed.
Alternatively, you can double-click Add or Remove programs in Window XP's Control Panel or Programs and Features in Windows Vista, select Google Chrome in the list, and click the Remove button.

Google Chrome leaves behind your profile information in case you wish to reinstall in the future. To delete this information, go to \Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome in Windows XP or \Documents and Settings\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome in Windows Vista.
