Question about Hoover 9.9 cu. ft. / 280 liter Upright Freezer HVA280K

3 Answers

Hoover HNU271AFFAL I have this "frost free" freezer & have to manually defrost it every 2 months or so as the fan in it seems to get stuck ( I assume with ice?)After that it works fine for a while. It is only one year old! Are these frost free units known to be very unreliable? I had an old LEC conventional freezer for 22 years before that only needed a defrost every 3 years or so & never let me down! I am seriously thinking of dumping this & buying another conventional unit as I am fed up of losing all my food. Maybe they need another few years to get these working reliably? I think any device with a fan in it would be prone to failures? can you recommend a good one to buy? ( at least 8 cu ft, upright)

As an ex hoover eng. these so called frost free units were never frost free!!!! if the unit was over gased in the factory it will over freeze. some early units were fitted with faulty modules and sensors. which were recalled thru engineer van stock but not to the public. call the service there service dept. but be careful not all hoover/candy/gias engineers are trained in refrigeration ( ask for a senior engineer. the staff turn over is huge!

Re: Hoover HNU271AFFAL

If the unit is only one year old go back to th point of purchase and ask for support. You may well have warranty. If not then you have a problem with the defrost cycle which could be the heater, defrost stat or defrost timer. I would suggest contacting an engineer if you get nowhere with the supplier. Hope this helps.

Is this freezer manual defrost or frost free?

Well, it would have helped had you included the actual model number, but without that, if you have a fan that blows air from the freezer into the fresh food compartement, its an automatic defrost design, A.K.A frost free.

Frigidaire upright--"Hi temp" warning light on door. Don't know why freezer temperatures are so high (into 30s), food is thawing. Electrical seems to be fine. Have not noticed problems with door. New...

2 months old should still be under warenty.

Check the freezer fan by opening the freezer door and pressing the door switch and listing for the freezer fan sound. If no sound then the fan motor could be bad.

Look at the back wall too see if you have frost build up. If you do then you have a defrost problem.

If thees are not your problem you could have a seal system problem. (( freon leak ))

I have a frigidaire freezer upright model#ffu20f9gw3

Without any additional info, there are a lot of possibilities:
1. Condenser coil (underneath unit) is dirty and clogged.
2. Compressor is failing. (need A/C tech)
3. Metering device is clogged. (need A/C tech)
4. Refrigerant charge is low. (need A/C tech)
5. Door seal is broken (frost will form around door).
6. Defrost heaters are stuck on (replace defrost timer located underneath unit at front).
7. Condenser fan has failed (underneath freezer on back).
8. Evaporator fan (inside fan) has failed (ice will form on cooling coil).

This should get you started...

If this helps you, please select YES to the first two ratings questions. Thank you, and Good Luck.

Any possibility you can help troubleshoot a larger upright freezer? Our freezer is 3 years old. It sounds like it is working -- I can feel cold air and hear it humming, but as of yesterday it stopped...

Assuming the thermostat is set to call for cooling (sometimes they get bumped), check the condenser coils, fan, etc for debris build up and clean as needed.

Is the freezer frost free? If so, it's possible the defrost timer is stuck in defrost. There should either be a mechanical timer or it could be electronic these days. Check for bad connections or any obvious signs of damage (burn marks)

Make sure the freezer door closes tightly

Your defrost timer, switch or circuit board is probably shot or it would be defrosting.

Use a fridge / freezer thermometer to tell if temperture high (it should be 0 F plus or minus 5 degrees) to determine if it is too high - this is normal if frost builds up but will get worse unless repaired.

Food not totally frozen, icecream melted

if it a frost free freezer then chances are it is a defrost hearter, fan motor or defrost timer
if it is not frost free then it will either be the compressor or a gas leak ( which should be under warranty)

BEKO Frost free freezer not as cold as it should be!

Sorry I don't have a solution for you, however would like to know if you found out what was wrong. I have an identical problem with my Beko fridge/freezer. It's only 14 months old and the freezer just wont freeze. I've turn it off for 24 hour and let it defrost completely (even had the panel off to make sure there was no ice left). I've turned it back on again and it still wont freeze. Everything seems ok, ie fan blowing, motor running etc. I really am beginning to regret buying Beko. thanks

Freezer frosting up

I need more information. If this is a frost free freezer with an internal fan I need to know what the freezer temp is. If a manuel defrost it is supposed to frost up. You defrost it 2 - 3 times a year when the frost builds up over 3/4 inch. If it frosts up faster than this check to see if the door is sealing all the way around. There should be no gaps or cracks in the gasket.
