Check to make sure all your safety switches are working properly. Usually these act as a ground to cut off spark to the engine. Any one of them that fails or sticks in the 'closed' (grounded) position will keep the engine from having spark. Otherwise you may have a stator issue.

Cub Cadet 2166 - Blades will not Dis-engage, installed new PTO Switch

Push PTO switch to OFF. Carefully trace the blue wire from PTO clutch to PTO switch. Likely you will find an abrasion of the insulation allowing contact with chassis (battery negative). You can verify PTO blue wire is shorted to chassis with an ohm meter or use an incandescent automotive test lamp referenced to battery positive.

Blades not egaging.

Check your ground wire. Follow the wire from your engage switch and or button. The ground wire may need tightened. I had a john deere and this problem was intermittent then if finally didn't work at all. I called the dealer and he walked me through the problem. sure enough the ground connection was not only loose but needed cleaning and tightening. Never had the problem again. hope this helps solve your problem.

Blade engagement HDK19H42 Ryobi Tractor

Check the belt routing. I've had a belt that was a little stretched out grab the pull incorrectly and the force stopped the engine.

I have a 2004 Troy Built Poney 17.5 Briggs & Stratton Riding Mower runs for about 3 minutes with blades engaged then is starts to die on me. Sometimes if I dis-engage the deck blades it will keep...

what color is the spark at your sparkplug? If it's red, it's weak,if it's blue it's hot, clean the magneto contacts with sandpaper and wd40 and clean the coil too, let me know how you did!

Ariens ezr1742 mower blades do not engage....noticed after went over a stump.

The common cause of this problem is that one of the safty switches has come dis-connected or has failed since most every newer mower has a electric clutch controlling the mower deck PTO there are safties bilt in under the seat and in other locations to make sure everything is ok before the blades engage, easiest way to test this is to run a jumper from the positive post of the battery to the input wire on the electric clutch assembly making sure all other wires ade dis-connected from the clutch and see if the blades engage if so then usint a continuity tester check all the wires and switches to this item to check for a faulty switch or broken wire. Thanks Don

I have Briggs 18.5 horse and after I mow for a while the motor will bog down and quit unless I dis-engage the blades. I removed the spark plug and it looks wet. I replaced it and after a short time again...

If the engine runs ok when the blades are not
engaged then the engine is all right. Maybe its a faulty safety blade switch or a wire to the switch is stripped and is earthing to the body. Stephen
