My son was on the computer earlier today. He claims 'all of a sudden, the screen went bazooie!' Now I have a pinchusion which extends past the horizontal edges of my screen. I've tried the manual adjustments on the monitor itself, to no avail. any guidance/suggestion will be appreciated. This is giving me a headache!!

- I'm at home without a second monitor.... It just fixed itself!!! I'm guessing I've got a short somewhere?? Either in cabling or in the connection. Does that sound reasonable??
Thanks for your help!

- By 'component' do you mean 'monitor', or something within the monitor? Or perhaps something within the video card?? I'm pretty ignorant about the internal workings.... Can it be fixed prior to it going out completely? As in, is there something proactive that can be done? Or do we need to wait until it goes down in order to properly assess the problem?
Something within the monitor or on the Video card. An Electronic Tech may be able to figure it out but it would be costly and likely not worth it. If you could use another monitor , just long enough to see if it is the video or monitor, that would be helpful, in so far as as Video cards usually are inexpensive to replace compaired to a whole monitor.
I took one in to be loked at and they had a $50 fee just to look at it.Needless to say I threw it away and gort another.
