Re: shut off after 5 secs

One of a few things, if the cmos barttery is totally flat then sometimes because the bios memory has failed it can cause a shutdown, but then normally automatically reeboots in a cycle. The other is that the processor is the brains that takes over after the cmos post check, so the CPU may be faulty, or simply that the motherboard is not supplying enough power to run the processor, either due to the motherboard being faulty, or a faulty power supply unit, which powers the motherboard, so unfortunately it is a process of illimination.

Asus will not turn off after shutdown

All these things point to the bios. You need to go to the Asus site for that motherboard and download an upgraded bios. There will be directions there on how to update your bios, probably both from Windows and from the system prompt.

My computer starts up but then switches itself off after about 15 secs, both the psu and processor fans seem to be working ok, can you help please ? thanks

Does it restart when it shuts off, or just stays off? If it restarts, then shuts down, then restarts again, it's likely a bad power supply unit.

When i press the on button, the first logo screeen comes in abt 7-10 secs then after 3-5 secs fan error appears on a blank screen and after another 2-3 secs it shuts down by itself. I cannot boot...

the problem is simple. you need to first change the fan for the processor. The pc goes off since the fan to cool the processor is faulty.........just to prevent damage to the processor. get a correct model, normally by checking the spare part number on the fan and try googling it up on the net. need me know if you need assistance in buying one.
good luck.

Boots up for ~15 sec. then shuts down

Usually a motherboard will shut the system down to save itself. So check that the fans are spinning and that the heatsink is properly seated. You should also test in a minimum configuration be removing all add in cards, disconnecting all drives and unnecessary cables, and removing all but one memory module. If this doesn't point out the faulty components then either the motherboard (most likely) or CPU (less likely) is faulty.

Shuts down 5 to 10 sec after start up

first of all get to the jumper next to the cmos battery in the main board try to change its position for some seconds while power is off this way you will clear cmos. start computer go to bios (hit delete on start up) and save changes.

hit delete on start up and load system defaults then exit saving changes.

chek the board position sometimes if its bottom was in contact with any metal of the pc case then this could cause it to restart (this could damage ur system too!)

Hello, find the BIOS Beep Codes at and try to find your problem. It is not a software or Monitor problem. It could be RAM or Video Card failure
