Question about Toshiba 42HP83 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

Television shuts off after being on for 30-60 seconds.

RE: I have the same problem. The television shuts off after being on for 30-60 seconds. Thank God it is happening while still under warranty. Is this something simple that I'm missing? When it goes off, the red (on) light actually blinks twice every few seconds. I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide. I don't see that anyone posted a response. I hope someone can help.

Same thing with mine! I just had a repair guy out and he said it was the power supply grid and that it would cost 1300 to fix!

Re: Television shuts off after being on for 30-60...

I just had the same problem with mine (Toshiba 42HP85) The TV was fine and shutoff red light blinked twice, and you can turn it on agin right away then it shuts off again. The problem was there are 2 cooling fans you can here at the top rear of the unit, when they get dusty the bearings wear out and shut off. See if you can here 1 or both fans working. If only one is on, you can get a replacement from for 7.95 ea. model # is on the back of the fan. Replace both while you have the cover off, if that's the problem. The unit shutting off is the computer sensing there is a problem the red light is an error warning. Good Luck!

While trying to change channels, my t.v. displayed ''no signal'' and then shut itself off. Now, when I turn it on, it says no signal and turns itself off after a few seconds.

Turn the television on and as soon as the screen turns on repeatily press the input button or change the input to whatever input you are using from a source device. As long as you change it to anything other than RGB.

Your television is essentially a big computer monitor with multiple inputs and a tuner. When using your computer and shutting it down the monitor will go in a power save mode. You don't need to shut off your monitor due to this power saving mode. When you power up your computer your monitor automatically turn on.

With the VIZIO and the RGB (computer) input the television will act just like a computer monitor. When you have a computer connected it will power down automatically when you shut off your computer. When you turn your computer on the VIZIO will automatically come out of standby mode. This is through RGB only.

This is normal operation for the VIZIO but can see confusing when nothing is connected to the RGB input. If you change your television input to RGB it will sense no signal on the input and will go into standby mode after about 5 - 10 seconds. If you were to send a signal to the television through RGB it would automatically kick on.

TV comes on and shuts off after about 10 secounds

This particular model has a history of this problem.

This sounds like a safety feature built into the television. It may be trying to protect itself from an unsafe electrical source. The more expensive the equipment, the more sophisticated the power supply that converts the power from your outlet into your television. There could have been a lightning strike that has disabled the tv. Or it could be a faulty outlet.
Before called for a technician, I recommend plugging the television into a different outlet. use a good quality extension cord if necessary. You may find that your outlet is not polarized correctly.
