I have a Seimens Gigaset 4010 Comfort of which I downloaded the instruction manual from Seimens into English. On the bottom of the "base station", it says the telephone was manufactured in Germany and "destined for France". When I follow the instructions as noted, I am unable to find a menu item that specifies 'Ans Machine' to activate the answering machine. Is this normal for my telephone being "destined for France"? I have checked all the sub-menus and can't find anything that even remotely covers anything discribed in using the answering machine.
Unfortunately the 4010 model does not have a built in answering machine but does have features to work with your local telephone companies voice mail. If you want to keep your same phones and get a base with a built in answering machine you will need to replace your 4010 base with a 4015 base (up to three handsets), or a 4215 base (up to four handsets). But don't toss out your old base, you can use it to extend your range if you ever use a 4200 series handset that will allow you to register each handset to up to four seperate bases simultaneously to extend the range. You can buy the 4015 or 4215 base only and save yourself some money. You can google Siemens cordless repair or go to the Siemens website to find a few options.

I cannot get the answering machine to keep my recorded message in memory. It keeps referting to the default recording. The machine also records incoming messages at slow speed so the voices sound like drowsy or drunken people.
