Brown streaks on clothes

My Whirlpool Duet likes to leave a random brown streak on my clothes--like someone took a brown crayon and drew a very faint line on it. I had the repairman look at it, and he said he never saw anything like it. I have cleaned the rubber boot on the front (three times!), scrubbed on the entire drum and cleaned both the door and the front where the door closes. Any suggestions?? The repairman said replacing the boot may help, but he's not positive either.

My whirlpool duet is leaving faint brown streaks on my clothes . I don't know if is the washer or the dryer that is the problem. The streaks cannot be removed. My washer and dryer are 2 years old. The washer seal was replaced about 8 months ago.

I have the exact same problem as the others have mentioned. A brown crayon like streak that cannot be removed with bleach or any other stain cleaner. I have had the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer for 3 years. I have had the pump and the boot replaced already. I was told to wipe the ring around the seal and under the seal on the washer to eliminate this problem, but it is still happening.

I too am having this problem. I don't know if its the wash or the dryer. I have had my duet pair for around 4 years. This is really aggravating and wish I had of known before We purchased these. It has ruined so many of our clothes.

same problem, actually seems worse at lower temperature. Streaks only on whites.

These brown streaks have ruined so many of our clothes. If we would have known, we could have purchased a new machine and been $ ahead! I've tried bleach, cleaner ordered spefically for this machine by the technician that came to our home (several times), vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, Cascade, and more. Nothing works. The technician said our bearings are fine. If in fact it's mold on the drum, I'm wondering about the health effects of washing our clothes in this mess of a machine. We will never buy from Whirlpool again.

The streaks are probably burn marks.

Check an earlier post of mine. This problem was killing me and Whirlpool was of no help at all. They claimed to never have heard of these thin brown streaks. Well, it was the dryer and as proof, I found where the thin brown lines were coming from. The felt had worn out in one spot allowing thin, whites and other thin items to slide in between the drum and the backing, resulting in the transfer of a thin brown line randomly on my clothes. Replace the felt (rollers and bearings if necessary) and with the drum apart, clean off the burnt brown streak of the backing with Simple Green. No more problems.

Thank you. That's it...your solution is correct and it has nothing to do with the washing machine.

I put a folded handkerchief between the drum and the frame and moved it along the felt gasket. Voila, I replicated the steaks with the machine off and cool.

Funny, I had the same problem with a fishing reel because the clearance between the spool and the frame was letting line get caught in between.

Now the question is how much will it cost to replace the problem parts vs buy a new dryer?

Thanks again,

Leonard

I have a Whirlpool Duet front load dryer. It puts rust streaks on all of my clothes. I can not find the source of the rust.

The drum is stainless steel.
Maybe a nut or bolt is in the water flow tubing that is giving off rust.
looks like you are going to have to take off some of the tubes inside and have a look to see if you can find anything amiss.

I have a whirlpool duet washer and it is leaving brown streaks on my whites. What do you think is causing this problem?

The brown stains are likely coming from the felt drum seal. The OEM adhesive is tar based - and after time and use - breaks down.

You'll need a new felt seal - and the adhesive that is used should be silicone based... eliminating the brown streaks.

Brown streaks on my clothes after washing them

O.K. Here it is, I solved it. After calling whirlpool who was of no help at all, reading all links about the Duet washer and/or the Duet dryer, I finally solved the problem myself. I too, thought it was the washer but, upon close inspection, found the felt on the dryer had worn out in one spot. The thin brown lines always showed up on whites and more so on anything very thin. I took the dryer apart and found a small burn line on the drum (brown and thin). I replaced the felt ($60) and used Simple Green to clean off the brown. Works perfect, no more thin brown lines. If you can't take the dryer apart, I called for repair and found the price with parts to average $250.
I was ready to sell the darn thing after it ruined about $300 worth of clothes. All in all, it's been three weeks and still working fine.

I have a 2006 Whirlpool Duet Electric Dryer that leaves brown marks on my cloths. I have cleaned the inside of the dryer per the manual's diretions, but it still leaves the marks. They almost look like...

Usually, if you are getting brown streaks or marks on clothing, one or both of the drum seals are going bad. Clothing will drag between the bulkhead and the drum, leaving brown marks. If you want to do the repair yourself, I can provide instructions, otherwise call for service.

Brown streaks left on clothes

Not having seen this before, but my best guess would be that the piece of clothes is caught in one position and rubbing on the gasket material around the rear of the drum. Is the mark permanent?

Dryer is leaving brown streaks on cotton clothes

To all victims of the brownish colored streak marks: I share your frustration!!! I have the same problem with my dryer which started when my dryer was only 3 or 4 years old - - totally unacceptable for an expensive top of the line dryer! A repair guy showed me how the brownish streak marks come from the felt liner which goes around the drum. Look inside your dryer for the beige or tan colored felt which sticks out around the circular drum. If you rub the felt with an old white t-shirt or paper towel, you will see the same brownish colored marks. My repairman recommended getting the felt replaced eventually, but until then, he gave me the following tips which really help avoid getting the streaks: For white or light colored clothes susceptible to the brownish streak marks: I dry these items as part of a very lightweight dryer load - with just a few other lightweight items. By doing a small lightweight load, clothing is less likely to get caught up & rub against the felt edges. For example, I dry 4 light colored men's dress shirts with 2 or 3 other lightweight shirts. OR for white or light colored athletic "dry fit" type athletic apparel, I dry 6 - 8 total lightweight shirts/shorts. If I throw my white Nike top or white pair of summer pants into the dryer with all my "whites", they will be doomed to getting brownish streaks due to the heavy load pushing them against the darned felt liner! Whenever possible, I wash susceptible items on permanent press to avoid wrinkling, then hang dry. Prior to putting these clothes in the dryer, I also "pre-clean" the felt with an old white cotton t-shirt by reaching into the dryer and rubbing along the felt edges until I'm not getting as much brownish color on the t-shirt rag. For a permanent fix, call a repairman or see the following do-it-yourself YouTube video on "Dryer Repair - Replacing the Lower Front Drum Felt Seal": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoYP_YsGP68 . I have a repair person coming today to fix 2 other appliances, so I'm finally getting my dryer fixed, and I will post an update soon.
