Question about Troy Bilt 5.5hp Self Propelled Mower

Troy Bilt XP self propelled mower

The mower will pulse real bad while mowing... RPMs will come up then down up then down. If the grass is high is will almost die on the down end of the RMP fall. Any suggestions.

Normally an indication of poor air flow. Replace air filter. Clean outside of carb with carb cleaned to ensure choke is free to operate. Go real slow in tall grass, some mowers don't have the torque to do tall grass, only use 1/2 of the deck width and have side discharge open.

SOURCE: ROPE ON MOWER WON'T PULL OUT

I agree, it sounds like the mower is fouled with foliage at the blade. Pull off the spark plug wire and tilt the mower on its side opposite of the carburetor, check the underside of the mower for impacted grass clippings.

SOURCE: how do i replace a drive belt on a troy bilt self propelled lawn

You turn the mower over, remove the blade with a 9/16 or 5/8 socket. There is a bolt holding shroud on, 3/8 or 7/16, there are two screws by the rear wheels, 7/16 that need to be removed. Once the shroud is removed, belt can be removed and new one put on.

You have to take off a part behind the gears and move it to a slot farther away. Mine was the same way. It's in the manual on how to adjust the speed to go faster.

SOURCE: troy bilt mower self propelled 21". Belt has come off

Take the three screws out of the belt cover. One screw in behind each back wheel. The other is under the mower near the shaft to blade. Remove the tension spring off the transmission. Then remove blade and the cover comes off. You then can put the belt back on. Sounds like fun don't it!

SOURCE: Troy bilt mower will not self propel

most of the time the engagement lever on the transmission cracks (at the bottom close to the pivot point where it goes into the case, look carefully cause it wont show without pressure on it)and the transmission simply will not engage. i fixed mine with a metal arm i made and no more problems all works a should. if they are going to make these under the troy bilt name they should at least make a decent lever for them.

How does the govener and carb linkage work on a Troy-Bilt 2005 800 Series (839) self propelled mower

Have you changed springs? Likely the correct components are there unless you have changed it. Does it run properly and at correct rpm when not in tall grass? Check for proper throttle adjustment first. also check for obstructions (packed grass for instance) under the deck that could be impeding the blade. Lastly, if you have the discharge blocked with a mulch plug, remove the plug. let the tall grass discharge. then run over it again and mulch it.

Own a Troy Bilt self-propelled model #12A-466-M011 for a year now. It worked great when first got it. Now it will not clear the grass underneath so cuts off every 15 feet and have to manually clear grass...

I had the same problem with my Troy-Bilt self propelled lawn mower. You have to use the grass catcher if your grass is high. Also, I mowed wet grass and it made my belt slip off the pulley and created a new problem, somowing wet grass is definitely not a good idea.

My troy built 210 6.75 hp mower self propelled mower doesnt pull

remove the front black plastic plate that is stamped self propelled and replace the wheel drive belt that attaches the engine pulley (above blade) to the transmission pulley (found under the cover). When you buy the belts, pick up two or three as I seem to go through a couple per season. Hopes this helps

Troy, Unless you are using old fuel (it breaks down after 1 week) it sounds like you have a faulty spark plug. Replace this first, drain any old fuel and replace with fresh fuel (premium unleaded). A faulty plug will work one minute but then fail like you have described.

Problem mowing my lawn.

I had the same problem and I already found those recommended solutions\ causes on the web:
1. The motor isn't on full throttle.
2. The blade is upside down.
3. The grass is too high when cutting it.
4. Overlap your cuts.

It helped my problem/ I hope it will help yours too!
