there should be a hole in the housing towards the back of the saw, you can go to Makitatools.com and download a breakdown for this tool.

remove the blade and check for the inner flange that should be behind blade. also there might be a ring underneath the inndr flange. or check to make sure the flange is installed correctly.

Hello. The blade guard is specifically designed to not stay up but instead to only come up as the wood pushes it up. This is a problem when you are trying to do a plunge cut but it is a safety feature. Joe
