How do i tension my machine please?

You need to provide the make & model of your machine so we can appropriately address your question.

HINT: When threading the upper thread, be sure to keep the presser foot in the RAISED position. This releases the tension disk and allows the thread to seat firmly.

How do you fix tension on pfaff 5.0

What tension problem are you having? You can adjust the top thread tension in the tools menu normally on most auto tension models. The bobbin tension is adjusted by the tension spring screw.

I have this portable machine and the tension knob has been knocked off. I can't get it back on. Is there a way to do that?

1.Brand & model of machine?
-However, fixing back a tension unit/knob shall depend on what model & to fix it back needs a hands on instruction, its better to call your local technician to get it install.

I have a hard time maintaining my tension. Other than the straight stitch (which sometimes even has a hard time keeping its tension), it is almost impossible to set it right. I have tried switching...

This is an unusual problem. Unless there is a physical problem with the tension disks which requires a technician to repair it, this should not be happening. While you are having trouble and trying to troubleshoot it, be sure to have the same normal sewing thread in the top and in the bobbin. Once your problem is solved, then you can try other types of thread combinations but you need to have a consistent base to work on for now. Be sure you have a new sharp needle. Be sure you have the bobbin thread "clicked" into that little tension slot at the front of the bobbin case (at about 7 o'clock). You will hear the thread click into the slot. Be sure the upper thread has gone into its tension slots too.

This is the most important thing: have the presser foot UP when you are threading. If you have it down, the tension slots are closed and the thread cannot go down between them.

When I thread my Des1 I pull out about 12 inches of thread off the reel of thread, then I hold onto the thread close to the reel with my right hand and use my left hand to take the thread through the thread path. Hold onto that thread near the reel fairly tightly - you want a bit of pull (tension) on the thread as you go to be sure it seats between the tension discs. Once I reach the thread guide just above the needle I give the thread a little tug (reassurance that the thread has fallen between the tension discs) before letting go with the right hand. Then I thread the needle.

Not knowing what model your Husqvarna is, I cannot tell you much more about your tensions. Most current models have automatic tensioning so if none of the above works, you should presume that there is a mechnical problem and get it fixed. I guess that would be the case for an older non-computerised model too - if it's not working, get it fixed. Most problems with tension can be traced back to the threads (top and bottom) not being in their tension disks properly. Once you can eliminate this as being the cause of your trouble, then it's a trip to the machine doctor I'm afraid.
