Question about Brother DCP-8060 Laser Printer
My printer will not print from my computer. It is connected by usb, and in programs like word its said to be online, however in the status monitor it is offline. When i try and print a test page it says Error, please help.
Unfortunately, if the Status light is blinking Red, the printer is reporting an internal failure. Try turning off the printer and then turning it back on after a few seconds. Another reset to try: unplug the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet. Also remove the USB cable from the printer and computer. Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the power cord. Turn on the printer (if it doesn't turn on again). Then check the error light. If it doesn't recur, plug in the USB cable (printer and computer). You may want to try a new USB cable or a different USB port on the computer. Try printing again.
If the error repeats, you will need to contact Brother if the printer is under warranty or your service provider if you have a contract covering the unit. If the printer is out of the warranty period, decide if it is worth the effort to get a diagnosis and repair.
I hope this helps.

I had the same problem with a Brother MFC-6490CW AIO printer. Here is how I resolved it:
Open the printers folder.
Right-click on the Brother printer and display the Properties page
Select the Ports tab.
In my system (Vista Premium), the selected port was a WSD port (whatever that means). Further down the list, there was a TCP/IP port that was obviously created by the Brother installation software. I selected the Brother-created TCP/IP port (which deselected the WSD port), applied the changes, and suddenly my printer was online. No idea what the difference between these two ports is, but I'll stick with the TCP/IP port until further notice.
