My quill shaft broke off at the blade. Can I just replace the quill shaft as everything else is OK?

Depends on the spindle assembly some have replacement parts available. Without the equipment numbers it would only be a wild guess if it is available or not.

Is the chuck a know off or threaded chuck. where should i buy a replacement and what should I ask for.

It almost certainly has a #2MT (#2 Morse Taper) drill adapter. Lower the quill and look for a slot on each side of the quill - that's a knockout slot. Insert a steel wedge into the slot and tap the wedge to force the Morse taper apart.

You can buy replacement Morse taper chucks from any number of woodworking or woodturning supply places, or from metalworking supply places, or eBay. You can get them from Grizzly, Packard, Rockler, Enco, Victor, MSC, Grainger... you can buy them through Amazon, you can get them at Sears.

You can buy the assembly as one unit or as two pieces - the chuck and the adapter. If you buy it as two pieces, be sure that the adapter and the chuck have matching tapers - that's usually a Jacobs taper like a #3JT or a #34JT, for example. It's much easier if you buy one matched unit.

You can get keyed chucks, keyless chucks, and automatic chucks with a #2MT shank.

I own an older John Deer (Sabre)model 1338. 38 inch deck. We cannot keep mower belts on the thing. Sometimes just as you engage the belt it flys off. Sometimes you can cut for hours and no issue. We have...

It sounds like you might have a bad bearing in one of the quill assemblys, which is causing the belt to come off, the easiest way to fix this is to replace all the quill assemblys or at least all the bearings in them, usually the pulleys do not cause this problem unless you see damage to the pulley face where the belt rides, mis-alighnment in-proper tension is the secong reason for belts to fail to stay on while mowing. To fix this problem you need the factory specs for belt tension and reccomendation on adjusting belt travel. Hope this helps Don

Ariens ride on mower

The most likely cause of the mower belt coming off is a bearing in the quill assembly which are the upright units that have the pulley on top and the mower blade on the bottom, what usually happens is a bearing statrts to go bad, which allows the pulley to startmoving out of alignment with the other pulleys which causes the belt to ride up on a flange and come off. Usually I reccommend that when you replace one bearing or complete quill assembly you replace all bearings, or quill assemblies this way everything is in like new condition and the problem should be solved. Hope This Helps Don

Old ariens model 927030 .. starts and runs fine . however once I sart mowing , it will mow for a few minutes and start bogging down as if something is heating up and starts binding... any suggestions?

YEs it sounds like one of the quill assemblys is heating up and the bearing is starting to bind, the quill assembly is the unit that is between the blade and the belt that the blade and pulley attach to there is 2 bearings inside these and with age they start to wear out and need to be replaced my suggestion is to replace all the quill assemblies at one time as this saves headaches down the line when another starts to fail. Hope This Helps Don

Excess play in spindle. How do you get to the quill and bearings? Is a pulley puller what is needed to get the pulley off?

The quill is separate from the pulley. All you need to do is remove a bolt on the opposite side of the handle, this should let you uncover the return spring. Take the spring off and pull the handle out, on the right side. the quill will then come out the bottom

Grinding when mower is engaged but no apparent damagewas found

You may have a bearing gone on one of the quills (blade shafts).

Remove the mower deck from your tractor, and check each quill for play in all directions. If there is any movement other than spinning, you will need to replace.

Door falls open

Without knowing the make and model of the dishwasher, it is hard to provide specifics. It is very rare for the hinge/spring to be repairable.

Generally, the hinge and spring assembly needs to be replaced as a single assembly. If you replace one, know that the other may fail soon, so consider replacing both.

Good Luck
