Sounds like the stop pin has been moved check on the throttle there is a little stop screw see if it is coated in muck and the part that the throttle arm hits the pin. someone may have moved its setting before hand. and now the problem has been fixed with a new timing belt the timing is right and engine is running smooth. if engine is pinking the timing belt is still not set properly and this is the reason for high revving. timing is to advanced. and needs reseting.

Revving of engin between 3000 and 4000 revs on ople astra is it the timing belt

please explain what is happening. Timing belts have nothing to do with engine rpms other than to keep the valves in correct time. If the engine just revs up to 3-4000rpms then there are other sensors that are faulty. run the fault codes to find out which ones may need fixing.

Chirpping in the engine

might be a bearing in your altenator or water pump, is it high pitched? does it go away if you rev the engine? if it goes away it might be the belt and u could try some belt dressing, its a spray u put on the belt that stops it from squeking

After i had to jump start my 2006 mitsubishi galant, the engine started to rev up pretty high and when I put it in gear it went rolling kind of fast. I don't feel I can control the acceleration. What do I...

One possibility is you have corrupt data in the engine computer parameter memory due to the low voltage and jump-starting surges. Disconnect the battery, wait ten minutes, then reconnect the battery and follow the engine computer training procedure (this may be titled "After Changing the Battery") in your owner's manual. Usually it's something on the order of letting the engine idle for a period of time, shifting through the gears if you have an automatic transmission, then driving normally.

My headlights on the car will not work..I revved the engine and all the headlights went out. I also noticed the radio staticked out when i rev motor also..could this be from the altenator surging???

The headlights and fog lights were burnt out. The battery was also boiling rapidly like a kettle...Hmmm i think the regulator is shot. I had to remove the altenator.(you can tell the engineers never tried to change one) What a terrible chore to remove the altenator, and find the maxi fuse...OMG if id only known Id bought a CHEVY .

My 1992 Chevy Blazer S 10 is revving really high when it starts

i have an s10 that would rev up high. i hooked up my scanner and it didn't give me much information, so i started researching. it took a while. i got my manual out and looked up all of the sensors in the fuel system. i even paid some web site $10 for help {wasred my $10} and they were no help. so i researched all of the sensors and found out their symptoms when they malfunctioned. the culprit turned out to be my water temp sensor. here is how it works, when you first start your engine the water is cold, the sensor sends out the information to the brain [warm me up] so your engine idles high to help reach operating temp quicker. when the sensor malfunctions it will send the wrong info to the brain [i'm cold] so the brain revs up the engine in an effort to get warm .i replaced the water temp sensor and the engine is back to normal.
