SOURCE: pool pump was on had a storm electric went out.

Pull the lid and strainer basket off your pump and reach in (electricity will be off at this point) and make sure that the pump inlet isn't blocked with debris from the storm... small stuff can get thru the strainer and jam up the pump motor... I know...i've got the pool from hell ...constantly jamming the pump...but it's next to a huge evergreen tree...

after you get the debris out, take a crescent wrench and remove the cap off the motor shaft on the outside of the pump. Turn that shaft with a wrench back and forth to free up the motor and dislodge the debris... if it frees up, put it all back together and turn the power on...you may have to repeat this process a coupe of times to completely clean the impellers in the pump.... good luck!

SOURCE: pentair pool pump vs 3050

These pumps should not be hooked into an intermatic mechanical timer. It should always have power supplied to it, meaning it should be installed to the line side of the power supply. Scheduling is done either in pump itself or thru an external controller such as a suntouch or easytouch controller, etc. When you have it wired into a timer like intermatic, power is interupted to the pump every day when the timer setting is for off. It is very hard on the drive of this pump, it does not like it, and will shorten the life of the drive. The pump was designed to always have power supplied to it, even when it is not scheduled to run. This may be the problem you are experiencing. HTH

Hi - My Intermatic T101P3 timer motor stops after it turns off the pool pump. I have one start and one stop time in a 24 hr period. I have to manually start the pump at the timer in the morning,...

Sounds like the clock leads are on the wrong posts, or at least the hot one is. If if was moved to the load side then manually starting the timer will also power up the clock motor. As soon as the clock trips the off timer, the pump and the clock motor are both off. Examine the clock leads to the wiring diagram inside the clock box cover to ensure they are connected correctly. I bet you'll find one of the wires is misplaced.

Hi,
The switch for the pool pump does not necessarily run from the same power as the timer motor...

Check for timer motor rated power on the first two terminals that run the timer motor...you may not have proper power there...you may have 120v but not 240 volt...

My Pentair pool pump runs continuously even though it is set to auto on outside & inside panels.

If your pump is running constantly either the timer is set to "manual on" or the timer has failed. Check the settings on your timer. Usually on a mecanical timer the manual on lever is just under the 24 hour dial. On the electronic timers it is controlled by a relay that if it fails defaults to always run.

Will Pentair Intelliflo pump save me enough money to justify cost

Here are a couple of thoughts. If you install an intelliflo pump and run it for the same amount of time and at the same rpm as your current pump, you will still have a savings. If you drop the rpms by 1k, you will have an exponential savings. Go to the pentair website and use the program to estimate your actual savings. You can still run the heater at a reduced flow setting but there is a limit, you have to check with the heater manufacturer to see what the minimum is.

If you are running a conventional pump 24/7 you are using a ton of energy. You should be able to run the pump for 8 hours a day and achieve the same results. For instance, running the pump from 4am to noon should give you a good window to maintain the heat and not run it all the time. It also depends on if you have a cover on your pool when it's not in use. If you don't, you will lose significant heat when it's not running, however, running it early morning should give it a chance to heat back up before you want to use it again. You will have to experiment with timer settings, etc..

I really do think the intelliflo pump is a great pump. The rare earth magnet design allows it to be way more efficient than the conventional pump. It is so much more efficient that when it's running, you can hold your hand on the motor and it is just warm. Your pump motor probably runs very hot, heat is a by product of inefficiency. I hope this helps.

I am looking for the most energy efficient way to run a 10,000 gallon indoor pool 365 days a year. Would i need a timer to optimize my electricity savings with the use of a Pentair IntelliFlo 4x160 pump or...

You run a pool pump based on pumping volume compared to pool volume and long enough to turn the water over frequently enough to keep it balanced and clear.

You should have no need to run it 24 hours a day to accomplish that since the pool is indoors and safe from the effects of weather and sunlight.

What you will want to do is determine the minimum amount of time then the pump needs to operate to keep the water balanced and clear based on fill water makeup, your chemical choices and bather loads and then set the timer to run the system for that amount of time and the pump for the speed required.

If you really want to be sure you are as efficient as possible you will need to look at the pump curve for your exact model and look for the point on the curve the pump is most efficient at, speed/volume wise and run it at that setting for the time you find thru experience mentioned above. That way the pump moves the most water it can at it's most efficient point for as little time as is required to keep the pool clean.

I hope I worded that in a way that makes sense.
