I need a repair book for singer 431 sewing machine book for a

Hi Elizabeth,
I also have a German Singer 431G. Haven't been able to find a Service Manual
for it. The guts are probably very similar to the US Singer 401A, you may be able to refer to that.

You can download the very hard-to-find technical Singer 401A SERVICE MANUAL == FOR FREE==
(in the back of the 301A Manual - then scroll down to page 125):
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Sewing-3237/2009/3/Singer-401A-5.htm I'm looking for help with Chainstitching. Do you have those instructions in your 431G User Manual? Also looking for the PART NUMBER of the 431 Chainstitch Throat Plate.

On AMERICA Online, I am PattBHS66.

Contact me and we can talk.

Thanks. And Good Luck!

Happy Thanksgiving!

How do I change a needle on a Janome jl-634

The jl-634 is a serger so should have two needles. There are two small screws (one on the left and one on the right) of the needle bar. First raise and remove the presser foot (makes changing the needle much easier) Rotate the needle bar to its top most position. Loosen the small screw for the needle you wish to replace, do not unscrew it entirely as it is finely threaded and difficult to re thread. Remove the needle while observing the orientation of the shaft (which direction does the flat side of the shaft face) Insure that replacement needle is correct for your machine. Serger needles are usually different from standard sewing machine needles. Insert new needle with correct orientation, and re-tighten the small screw previously loosened. Reinstall and tighten presser foot. Rotate machine through entire stitch cycle to insure that needle does not strike or rub on anything. Re-thread needle and check for proper operation.
