Unfortunately, this is a failure of the balancer board for the backlight. The unfortunate part is that the balancer is not available by itself anymore, and the whole panel must be replaced, as Sony only has the balancers attached to new panels. You can contact Sony directly to ask for assistance, and it usually helps.
Hope this helps you...

I take it that you mean that you were previously watching AV4 and then you switch off, then when you switch back on the next time its reverted back to default TV source.
If this is correct, then try this first: switch on, then menu and change a setting in the picture submenu, it doesn't matter what you change just as long you remember what you change>now switch it off and wait 1 min>now power it back on and check the setting that you changed is still set.
If the menu change has gone back to before you changed it means that your TV is in "Shop Mode": When its in shop mode its doesn't matter how many times you make changes, when you power it off it will go back to the original shop settings, this feature was built in to allow shops the have all show TV's to run at optimal settings and if a customer played about with the settings it would matter as they are reset again when the TV is switched off and the store staff don't have to go around resetting all the TV's at the end of the day.
To sort this I would you should "Restore Default" settings and set the TV as "Home Mode" and not "Shop Mode".
If it was not in "Shop Mode" I would still do the above.
If this doesn't sort it out, I will get 32V series on my desk in work and try and replicate the problem your having, I will let you know.

SOURCE: Sony Bravia KDL series 52"
Check the fuses on the power board. there is one fuse on primary side and one on secondary side.
Take of back panel and follow plug into the tv.where it ends is the power board.always use caution.the capacitors in there hold high voltage even after unplugged for a couple of days.Discharge capacitors before servicing the board.
