Problem for GE Security Simon 3 Wireless Home Security System
Wireless failures, doors that don't work consistent
I have wireless sensors that fail. Some are within 10 feet line of sight. If I bring the transmitter close to the simon it starts to work, the battery is fine in fact I have replaced the sensor and the new one does the same thing. The other interesting problem was the garage door opener is doing the same problem wont work past 10 feet. I have also replaced the panel and the new one does the same thing. There is only one wireless device in the house and that is a 6.0 cordless phone. I powered down the phone and the problem persists. Any ideas??

- There are only supervisory signals at the central station, and onsite the panel does nothing when i open a door or window unless i bring the transmitter within 5 feet of the simon. There are no towers or power lines running near the home. The 6.0 phone works fine. The garage door opener works the same, within 5 feet of the reciever it works fine. This started about 2 months ago and has progressed to be as bad as it is now. The system was installed previous with a simon 2 for 5 years no problems. This problem is bad, i feel i may want to investigate with the fcc to see if anyone in the area has started a new transmitter on a tower or applied for a license in my area but other than that i still need a security system. I am frustrated to not know what changed. It must be something in the enviroment.Clarification Request

Dude, I am totally intrigued with this! I designed communications systems for years and this is a new one on me. Your system should operate on 315 Mhz if you are in the US. But not your garage door. The supervisory signals are on a subcarrier and would normally be disrupted with the main signal. Could be a harmonic but i don't think so. Check the jam detect on the simon in all three modes and see what you get. try it on the battery only and see what you get. do you have a keyfob? what is it's range? My best guess at this point would be a new digital tv transponder that doesn't have a splatter shield or one that is not working. I'll stay with you on this, let me know!

Hmmmmmm, Interesting, what error codes do you get? Is it showing not detected or is it a supervisory communications error? Do you have overhead power lines outside? Does your garage door do funky things? How is the range on your 6.0? Lots of investigating to do here!

Hi, sorry have to ask no invisible fence for dog or wireless internet? Has to be environment 2 panels doing same thing not likely. Ham radio, share wall with neighbor. Could be high emf (electro magnetic field) from electical pipe(s) in wall behind panel. May need to move panel.

You probably have a few different alarm transmitters throughout your home. Perhaps one of them is a "run-away transmitter". I would take the batteries out of all transmitters and just work with one at a time -'till they are all reinstalled with out problem.Including garage door transmitter. good luck.
