Yes it can, there are vendors that do repair main boards. I don't know if it will be cost effect vs. just getting a replacement board.

Barry,
if you include the make & model we may be able to help locate a board. Even better if you include board ID info including revision number. Suggestions include eBay or any of the reliable net based component vendors.

After computer turns on there is no start bar, no icons, and nothing even when i right click...

Try removing your video card if it is and add on card and not on board restart you computer after you have removed it not forgetting to enter setup and tell it to look for the on board video not the add on card and connecting the monitor to the correct VGA port for your on board video. Allow windows to load fully and configure the on board video then once this is complete shut down your PC re install your video card after doing so power up your system enter Bios once again change the setting back to look for the add on video card usually automatic, Save and exit if screen is still black after windows has loaded connect monitor to the add on video card as it has configured it back to the rightful settings. If your computer loads to windows on the on board videos right click enter properties and change back to the add on card and connect cable after confirmation as screen will go black and you should be seeing everything you should have prior to the problem arising. If this does not work then it could be a worst case scenario that your video card has malfunctioned and needs replacing/repairs if able to be usually not though unless it is a big dollar card that is upgradable. If all else fails try to use the windows repair feature to repair the installation of windows. I hope this helps

I have had the unit for a year and a half and it started running hot and evidently burning out the support chips on the video card. It was repaired by an official Toshiba repair facility. The repair...

On the X305 the video card is actually 3 boards sandwiched together. there are 2 actual video cards plus the SLI control board. I have a feeling that Toshiba was just replacing the failed board and not actually addressing the cause. In your case I would say that either the SLI control board is faulty or there is an active component on the motherboard that is causing an over voltage issue in one of the video cards. In any case you are looking at some pretty serious money to get this issue resolved. I personally would try a reflow on all 3 graphics boards and if that didn't work I would look to replacing the motherboard and the video cards.

I took my receiver to the local Yamaha repair

The board price won't be cheap. Were they going to replace the board or repair it? It is possible that the component parts are not available from Yamaha and the only option is to replace the board. Other shops may be able to repair the board. What was the original problem that lead them to want to replace the board?

Snowy picture in all video sources -Sony Kp53xbr200

I'm working on the same problem. I posted a little about this problem under another question for the 53XBR200. From what I've learned so far with experimenting and studying the schematics is that the problem is with the BR board which is the module that handles upconverting. PIP video goes through the BM board/module. You can pull the BR board out of the set and still have the TV work as long as you keep it in PIP modes. Likewise, you can pull the BR board out, but the set will turn off if you try to go into any PIP mode. The problem with static on every input only remains in full-screen video. As you've noted, all inputs work fine as long as you remain in one of the PIP modes. It does look like the BR board is discontinued. I would like to know how to get a replacement/repair if anyone knows about this. My only hope to get this set functional again is to either force the video to bypass the BR board, or repair the BR board itself. If it's a discrete component on the BR board (capacitor, resistor, transistor) then it might be possible to salvage a repair. If it's one of the upconverting chips, then we might be SOL. I've tried to jump the video signals around the BR board, but this didn't work and the picture looked distorted. I think the problem with this idea is that the video processor might be expecting 480p/960i video and by bypassing the upconverter I'm sending 480i video into the video processor. I'm going pursue this idea some more as it might be the only way to salvage the set from the trash bin.
