Question about Craftsman Gas Mini - Tiller/Edger

Keeps stalling my mini tiller Mod.#31629264 runs fine for about 5 mins then stalls.It restarts on 1 or 2 pulls,runs for awhile and stalls againI had it reworked last year under warranty now the warranty is off Any suggestions

SOURCE: Craftsman mini tiller starts good but will not idle nor run fast

i'm having the same problem. cleaned carb but didn't help. I found that if I spray starting fluid on the gasket between the carb and the motor it speeds up. I'm going to try to find a new gasket, I can't tighten it anymore.

Sounds like you have dirt/debris in your caburetor jets,fuel passages or a diaphgram that is becoming non-flexible.
Check/Clean/Replace your Air Filter, a dirty air filter can make your engine run to rich with fuel.
NOTE: Before you disassemble the carburetor:
Mark each piece with a awl, or some kind of instrument that will make an alignment scratch before you disassemble the carburetor into separate pieces.
That way you will know which way it goes back together when you reassemble it.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or by using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that, and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Be sure to check your fuel tank for water and dirt/debris, if there is water/debris then you need to clean your tank.
Check you fuel line condition after a while they will degrade and need replacment.
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of weedeaters.
When you remove your fuel lines from the carburetor be sure to make a drawing to how the lines are connected to the carburetor.
Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank.The smaller of the two lines is the return to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.
Make sure you are using fresh fuel...and oil mix if your using a two cycle mower or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture and not too much oil as it can cause hard starting.
If the mower/weedeater is over a couple of years old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
The diaphgram may look good and flexible, but it can be deceiving and not act as a fuel pump as it should because it has become too hard.
When you clean your carburetor, I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.
Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.
Be sure to use COMPRESSED AIR to blow out all the fuel and air passages.The higher air pressure is needed to blow some of the trash/debris from the fuel or air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Keep in mind that the float (if you have one) for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit, or you could also ask the parts man that you get your kit from.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
Before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their original position before you started.
Note:
Be careful when you remove the float arm and inlet valve because there is a little spring under the arm and can get lost very easy.
The little spring inside of the carburetor goes under the float arm.
That is where your fuel inlet needle/float valve is located...on the arm at the end.
Normally there is a small indetion in the carburetor base and a small protrusion on the underneath of the float arm where the spring will be in the right postion for installation.
The spring will set in the indention and you will install the float arm with the needle/float valve and float rod into position over top of the spring,you will push down until it is in position and then you can tighten the screw that holds the float arm assembly in position.
Once you have your carburetor rebuilt that should solve your problem.

JD JS45 walk behind mover. Starts, runs fine for 5 minutes, then stalls, won't restart till i pull the spark plug and cool the motor, plug down. then same thing starts, runs for 5, stalls.


Probably either a fuel or a spark problem. You need to check for the presence of a good spark immediately the engine stops - by using a spark gap, a spare spark plug or a propriety spark indicator.

If the spark is found to be absent the fault is likely the ignition module but check all connections and the stop switch operation before replacing.

If the spark is present then the fault is probably fuel-related and is the sort of thing a tiny droplet of water in the carb could cause...

2002 Malibu stalls while driving, doesn't over heat. But can start smelling gas fumes before it stalls. usually wait about 5 mins then restarts. in higher elevation runs fine but in lower elevatio


It sounds like the catalytic converter could possibly be almost completely plugged up not allowing the exhaust to leave the engine like it should. It just builds up in the cylinder head and when it gets too much in it built up and there's no where to go, it'll stall the engine. By letting it sit for a few minutes, it gives the exhaust time to find a way out and the car will restart.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

04 elantra stalls when cold


No codes would point to fuel problem such as low pressure.
Was the car left overnight at the shop so it would be a cold start for the mechanic ?

The problem is that the fuel cap does not allow enough air to get into the fuel tank as the fuel is used. A vacuum is created and it stalls the engine. If you look at the cap from the inside you will see two small slots on each side of the black center piece. I took this apart and opened up those slots a little bit with a hack saw blade. This allows enough air to get into the tank to prevent a vacuum and the resulting engine stall.

Honda mini tiller stalls


Sounds to me like your main fuel jet is clogged if it will idle (different fuel supply) but not run with open throttle. When you open the throttle the engine gets more air and not enough fuel and quits.

Solution: Open (disassemble) the carburator and spray carburator cleaner through every orifice. Make sure you actually get cleaner THROUGH all holes. You've no doubt got fuel "varnish" in the jets from letting the equipment sit idle for long periods.

Prevention is the key: Always use a fuel stabilizer (Stabil) in your fuel. Mix as described on teh package for the "long term storage" concentration — generally double the dose of "normal" concentration and you'll minimize future problems.
