Check you antivirus and firewall settings make sure internet is allowed.
Internet connection and network errors can be frustrating and confusing to a casual computer user.
However, Internet Explorer provides a diagnostics tool to help identify and even repair the most common network issues.
This tool is simple to use, organized in steps, and can help get a computer back up and running quickly.

Open Internet Explorer and click on the "Tools" button in the control bar at the top of the window. From the "Tools" menu, select "Diagnose Connection Problems."
A window will appear, displaying the start page of the diagnostics tool.
Follow the instructions to determine the cause of the connection error.
The diagnostics tool will ask a series of multiple-choice questions about the connection problem you are experiencing.
Close all programs and restart the computer.
If you continue to receive an error when attempting to connect to the Internet, check that all cables and power-supply cords for the computer, modem and/or router are properly connected. Then, run the diagnostic tool again.

Create the menu tab on your homepage right click in the top toolbar you should see a number of toolbar options select the menu tab which will add File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help
Click on the tools at the bottom of the drop down list will be internet options or
Click start control panel internet options you will see a home page box To Create Page Tabs type
each adress on its own line (type in google.com) or your preferred home page and browser
below that will be change search defaults click on settings you will see all search Providers
Toolbar extensions and Accelerators you have if don't need any of them you can disable or remove them
Click start type cmd press enter you will be in DOS mode
type in ipconfig press enter
you will see all of your internet connection details
or type in your default gateway adress into your internet search should read something like 10.0.0.138 to get an internet connection

Tip

Add Remove Programs list is blank -- Windows 2000

Usually It happens due to some virus activity or any corruption in system files. So when you go to Add Remove Programmes, It shows nothing but a blank space.

· To resolve this issue with Internet Explorer 6.0 installed, repair Internet Explorer 6.0:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Paste the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
Because this command is case sensitive, you should copy the command, and then paste the command in the Open box.
· To resolve this issue with Internet Explorer 5.0 or 5.5 installed, repair Internet Explorer 5.0 or 5.5:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Paste the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
Because this command is case sensitive, you should copy the command, and then paste the command in the Open box.

If the Add/Remove Programs tool still does not function properly, shows no content, or if you want to try to fix this issue without upgrading to later versions of Internet Explorer, check the following registry keys to make sure that they contain entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache
Note If the previous registry keys are blank, the Add/Remove Programs tool may also be blank.

Use the command line REGSVR32 [path\filename] to register each of the following files:

%systemroot%\System32\Appwiz.cpl
%systemroot%\System32\Mshtml.dll
%systemroot%\System32\Jscript.dll
%systemroot%\System32\Msi.dll
Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\Oledb32.dll

%systemroot%\System32\Msdart32.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\Mshtmled.dll
%systemroot%\System32\Mswstr10.dll [not registerable]

If the Add/Remove Programs tool displays incomplete information or is blank, verify the file dates. Where possible, register the following files:

%systemroot%\System32\Gdi32.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\User32.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\Msvcrt.dll [not registerable]

%systemroot%\System32\Oleaut32.dll
%systemroot%\System32\Mlang.dll
%systemroot%\System32\Shell32.dll
%systemroot%\System32\Shdoclc.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\NetapI32.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\Secur32.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\Netrap.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\Samlib.dll [not registerable]

%systemroot%\System32\Ws2help.dll [not registerable]
%systemroot%\System32\Wldap32.dll [not registerable]

IE 8 has mshtml.dll unhandled exception error

Please try reinstalling Internet explorer. You could also try using a ergistry cleaner such as CCleaner which is availible from filehippo.com. Clean the registry errors out and that might fix the problem without reinstalling.

I cant seem to open up my internet explorer

To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
  1. Quit all programs that are running.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
  4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
  • Shdocvw.dll
  • Actxprxy.dll
  • Oleaut32.dll
  • Mshtml.dll
  • Browseui.dll
  • Shell32.dll
Windows XP and Windows 2000 only loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.

If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the following registry values are present and correct: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Name: (Default)
Value: IDispatch
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

If the problem is still not resolved, reinstall Internet Explorer. If you are using the version of Internet Explorer that is included with your operating system, reinstall or repair your operating system.

Fixing Internet Explorer Javascript Links

Sometimes in IE when you try to open links that open in new windows, they don't open. At the bottom left of the IE window you will see a yellow triangle which indicates its a Javascript problem.
  1. Start » Run » Type regsvr32 /s URLMON.dll
  2. Then do the same but change the DLL names to the following:

    scrrun.dll
    Msxml.dll
    Mshtml.dll
    Shdocvw.dll
    Browseui.dll
    Msjava.dll
    Actprxy.dll
    Jscript.dll
    Vbscript.dll
    oleaut32.dll
  3. Restart IE and your links should be fine.
  4. Alternatively you can copy this in to a text file and save it as a batch file (.bat file)

    regsvr32 /s scrrun.dll
    regsvr32 /s Msxml.dll
    regsvr32 /s Mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 /s Shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 /s Browseui.dll
    regsvr32 /s Msjava.dll
    regsvr32 /s URLMON.dll
    regsvr32 /s Actprxy.dll
    regsvr32 /s Jscript.dll
    regsvr32 /s Vbscript.dll
    regsvr32 /s oleaut32.dll
  5. This will re-register all the DLL files. All of the above are used by IE.
