Want to use my current speakers with a new surround sound system. Current system is 5.1 channels, rated at 100w per channel @ 8. Ohms. New System is rated 145watts, 5.2 channels at 6 Ohms. Will b ok?


Hi Ronald.
8 Ohm speakers will work just fine as replacements for the
6 ohm speakers. When fitting speakers you need to consider
The power handling capability. The impedance and the frequencies
involved. Power handling is expressed in wattage ie 100W.
Unfortunately this can be expressed in rms, max or peak music. The rms value (root mean square) is the only really relevant figure as this is the continuose handling power at 1 KHz. The impedance
is the resistance that the amp sees but is not a dc resistance and
varies with frequency. The lower the impedance the more power
will be drawn from the amp. In the event of a short circuit across
the speaker the amp will try to deliver infinite power into an infinitly
small load in an infinitesimal amount of time and will self destruct.
Using an 8 Ohm speaker draws less power than a 6 Ohm speaker.
Connecting speakers in parallel; results in the impedance beingreduced. For example two 8 Ohm speakers in parallel will result
in a 4 Ohm impedance load but in series will be 16 Ohms.
Incidentally the the .1 (5.1) is the sub woofer which only has
to handle the bass frequencies, a small percentage of the
amplifiers overall frequency response..
Connect your speakers and then power up the amp last
after double checking there are no shorts on the speaker
cables.

take a look at the speaker,use a multimeter see if the speaker have the rated resistance.( eg .8 ohms) if speaker bad replace if.if speaker good. see if your audio amp is getting power (multimeter needed) set to d.c volts.have voltage then look for the input pin that brings audio into the amp,use a 16 -32 ohms speaker across gnd pin and input pin(bring volume up hi on tv) if audio replace audio amp.
(also look for cold solder) on p.c board before replacing amp.

  • You double the watts to the speaker for the channels bridged. This also depends on the Ohms of the speakers being used. The lower the Ohms of the speakers used in relation to the Ohms of the amp also increases the watt output of the amp.

How do you wire a AW1000V to 1 amplifier?


The easiest way to wire this would be to make sure you have a 2 ohm amp, wire both voice coils in parallel to the amp. This means to connect both + terminals on the speaker to the + speaker output on the amp, then wire both - terminals on the speaker to the - speaker terminal on the amp. With the voice coils in parallel like this it makes it into a 2 ohm load at the amplifier. If you are running for example a 1000 watt amp at 2 ohms into this speaker it would give each voice coil the equivalent of 500 watts of power at 4 ohms. The other way would be to run the voice coils in series (voice coil 1 - terminal to - speaker terminal on the amp, voice coil 1 + terminal to the voice coil 2- terminal, voice coil 2 + terminal to the +speaker terminal on the amp.) The series wiring would give you a 8ohm speaker load to your amp so you would need a 8 ohm amp.

no this AMP is not bridgable to get more power out of this amp you need 4 ohm speakers.

Judging from the "10D", that most likely means 10 watts. 6.5 inch speaker, probably 8 ohms. Most amps of this nature have 8-Ohm speakers.

Their 12-watt and 15 watt amp have a 6.5". Their 20 watt amp has an 8". The 80 watt has a 12".

What do you mean by the subs should have more watts than the amp.and subs mean woofer ? actually i dont know any thing abt this. what is 8 ohm stereo, 8 ohm bridged,4 ohm stereo. etc etc...?


If your planning on using a stereo system in your car or home you need to follow some rules otherwise your just wasting money. The watts of a speaker means how much power it can handle. The higher the number the more power it can handle, and usually the louder it can get without distorting. If your amp has more power or close to the wattage rating of the speaker you will blow the speaker, it can even get so hot it ignites. The amount of ohms is the electrical resistance the speaker provides. House speakers usually have 8 ohms where car speakers tend to use 4. 8 ohm stereo means your left and your right are separate channels and each speaker has 8 ohms. 8 ohms bridged means you bridge the left and right channel to increase the power output of the amp and you have to use either 1 8 ohm speaker, or 2 4ohm speakers in parallel to prevent damage to the system. Same goes for 4 ohms. If I remember correctly you want your sub(woofer) to have a wattage rating 20% higher than the amp. Remember if the speaker overheats its no good, but most amps if they overheat they just shut off until they cool off, but only if they state they have a thermal overload protection.

All amps aren't created equal. More exspense amps put out "cleaner" power. You need to know what the RMS power rating is for the amp at 8 ohms and 4 ohms. Also, is the speaker an 8 or 4 ohm speaker? How you wire a speaker or speakers (series or paralell) can change the ohms (resistence) which will change the power put out of the amp. Also, I'm assuming you are setting it up in mono?

it depends on the load you want to present to the amp. un 12, 2009 - If woofers are 2 coil, then you definately need to know the impedance of the coils (are they dual 2 ohm, or dual 4 ohm?). For dual 4 ohm speakers you will only be able to acheive a summed load of 1 or 4 ohms. If your amp can handle 1 ohm, then connect this way: 1 ohm: Connect both the positives and the negatives together on each speaker. This puts them in paralell which will result in a 2 ohm load per speaker. After you connect the two 2 ohm loads to the amp, it will see 1 ohm as it's load. If your amp can handle this, this is usually the lowest configuration capable by consumer stuff, (if you are not doing competition or some crazy thing), and few amps are rated for 1 ohm so it's not really recommended and may heat up or blow your amp. 4 ohm: Connect one negative to one positive terminal on one speaker. Drive the other open terminals with the amp. This places coils in series and results in an 8 ohm load per speaker. After connecting both speakers to the amp, the amp will see a 4 ohm load. In both cases, the rates power of the amp (at that load) will be divided equally between the speakers. I'm having problems getting full power to my sub.


A 2 ohm stable amp should be able to be bridged to 1 ohm (consult owner's manual for bridgability), but a 4 ohm speaker is a 4 ohm speaker and would need to be parallelled with another 4 ohm speaker to provide a 2 ohm load.
