The lid on the camcorder wont open :[ When i try to open the lid, it says 'Preparing to open Cover' .. Then like 20 minutes later it says error, and it continues to stay stuck. Also, it wont turn off. I haven't called the Sony company and the Geek Squad at the Bestbuy we purchased it at hasnt helped at all .. my bloods beginning to boil.
There is no easy solution. Qualified Sony servicers have a service remote that connects to the lanc jack. There are hexadecimal codes supplied in sequence to cause the micro to output a signal to open the door. However, disassembly by a qualified tech can allow mecahnical release as well. I can tell you this is not an a do it yourself fix. This particular model once it is unhappy with a disc will never open, the problem was irradicated in subsequent models. Third party brand discs and discs with surface marring, especially fingerprints, will lock up the works.

Dew is likely to form in the following circumstances:
?When moving the camcorder from a cold place to a warm place.
?When placing the camcorder in a cold room which is then heated rapidly.
?When moving the camcorder outdoors from an air conditioned room or car.
?When placing the camcorder in the direct path of air blowing from an air conditioner.
?When placing the camcorder in a humid room.
Dew will gradually form on the head drum of your camcorder and make the video tape stick to the head. This causes damage both to the head and the tape.
When dew forms, recording and playback may not function properly.
When ?DEW? flashes, remove the cassette, leave the cassette compartment open, and wait for a few hours to allow the camcorder to acclimatise to the surrounding temperature.
To use the camcorder again, turn on the power after waiting for a few hours. Be sure that ?DEW? has disappeared.
Do not insert a cassette while ?DEW? is flashing; this may result in damage to the tape.
There is a reset button behind the LCD .Open LCD press slithly the rest button and dont forget to use a fully charged battery. For the cassette to rise after opening the lid for the cassette ,make sure you open the lid up to its end,if doesnt respond close it half way and back again. If my trick worked "Ke tsona" meaning good shot! the problem is a switch that is connected when closed and open when opened
so either the switch mechanism can be fixed or they will have to order you a new switch to repair it

OMG! I had the same issue and blew on the lens. To easy to be true, but it worked! I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I turned the camcorder on and off several times, and it worked every time! Sure beats the $341 Sony was going to charge to fix it!!!!
