Question about Garden

Open Question

Troybilt tb320 I just bought the rearwheeled propelled push mower because I have a somewhat hilly backyard (<1/3 acre). The mower came with the STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment as well as SAE 30 for small engines. I mowed my lawn now 3 times and all 3 times I noticed that the next time I went to mow and I checked the oil, the engine was nearly out of oil. Is this usual for a brand new push mower, or do I possibly have a lemon? Or am I perhaps not using enough Ethanol Stabilizer? Appreciate some advice. Don

SOURCE: white smoke

White smoke is most likely cause there is to much in the engine.. Only takes about half quart.. Clean with degreaser and garden hose on the outside..

SOURCE: I have had my Poulan Lawn Mower for 4 years. The

Four years without adding or changing the oil?!
I think that was the problem right there.

Mowers need oil changes to protect the cylinder walls and valve guides every 25 hours of operation. Thats usually about one season if your yard is under an 1/3 of an acre.

Your mower ran on almost no oil for the last two years. The normal lawn mower only holds 20 ounces of oil. You topped off with 16 ounces! The four ounces still in the motor were probably so full of dirt and metal particles that it was grease! Which is no help to an engine that gets its lubrication by splash oiling.

Your mower should be oiled with 30 weight non detergent oil. Multi Vis oils are for engines with tighter machined tolerances. Your oil choice is going to go right past the piston rings and valve guides creating gobs of smoke! Go get some 30W ND oil at your parts store and put it in....but run the mower first so you can clean out all the gunk in the oil sump. Run it long enough for the oil to flow easily.

Once you put in the right oil you can run it and try to clear out the remaining multi vis oil.

If it keeps smoking...I would say you have permanent damage to the cylinder wall or valve guides.

Good luck and be careful!

SOURCE: My Cub Cadet self propelled lawn mower, with

Transmission problem - either the clutch plate is worn out (you will need to replace it and correctly readjust the lever) or the belt is slipping, either because it's loose (the tension spring is worn out and has softened (replace it) or the pivot points are rusted and no longer move freely - oil it) or it has aged and it will have to be replaced.
You will need to dismantle the transmission for that.

Troybilt self propelled mower front wheels lock up when pulling back

most have small leaf springs that let it toggle back and forward, if they brake can cause this problem. Then it may just need the wheels removed, clean the parts and lubed

Husband says thinks it is starter cable has stretched and needs new one...does this sound correct and how to install it on Troybilt self-propelled push mower?

I'd love to help you, but I think you need to rephrase your question. There is no "Starter Cable" on this mower. Sorry.

Does it still move? Make sure you don't have a stick or something stuck in the transmissions pulley/fan. Check idler pulley's too.

Check to see of where the canles connect to the linkage, there are usually thumb nuts you can adjust similiar to that of the brakes on a bicycle handle bar.

How many HP?

* If your yard is up to an acre in size, the ideal cutting width is 30-42" (76-106cm). To avoid being underpowered, or putting too much strain on the engine, make sure your mower or tractor offers a minimum 14 horsepower. Riding mowers are the most commonly purchased for lawns this size. * For a yard that is between one and three acres, you’ll reduce your mowing time with a cutting width of 42-46" (106-116cm) and a strong engine up to 16 HP. Typically people purchase lawn tractors for yards of this size. * If you’re mowing more than three acres, you’ll need to look at the garden tractors, with cutting widths up to 54" (137cm) and at least an 18 HP engine, preferably bigger.
