My suburban water heater quit heating on the electric side.

1) Anode rod prevents tank from rusting. And would not affect daily operation.

2) Maybe the element is burned out;

Newly installed Hott Rod in 6 gal RV water heater only heats to lukewarm. Has been on for 12 hours. Outside temperature is 60 degrees

Hott rod is 120Volt AC.
Check voltage supply for undervoltage, or reversed polarity, or tripped breaker.
Check that electric thermostat is set to 120 degrees.
Rotate thermostat temperature adjustment back and forth and see if you can hear water heater working.
Thermostats can be bad, or stick.
Check the ECO red reset button is not tripped out.
If tank was not full of water before power was applied, the element will instantly burn out.
Use continuity tester across bare element screws to see if element is good. Or use multimeter and test across bare element screws shows 29 ohm for 6 gallon, 18 ohms for 10 gallon.
More resources at Hott Rod, for troubleshoot and contact.

Water heating not heating water

The Emmerson W152 is ordinary 1-year warranty 120Volt electric storage water heater, except with bronze tank. The bronze tank will not rust, and therefore tank does not have anode rod, and tank has 5 year warranty.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Emmerson-point-of-use-water-heater.pdf
Actions to take:
1) Check circuit breaker.
2) Emmerson plugs into 120V outlet. See if outlet works for other 120Volt light or can opener.
3) Turn off power and do following:
4) Open cover on water heater, and press in reset button.
If reset will not reset, then replace thermostat with ordinary generic thermostat from hardware store.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html
5) If reset button is not tripped, test element.
6) Emmerson has 1500 watt element, and correct ohm reading at 120 volts should be around 9.6ohms
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-element.html
7) This element is 7" long, and is also generic, and should be available at hardware, or plumbing supply, or Google-search 'Emerson appliance water heater element.'

Is the Whirlpool Electric Water Heater Model # EE3J50RD045V energy star rated

You want to know if this heater has Energy Star label.
I don't know.
Call Whirlpool 1-877-817-6750

Energy Star is a label that means nothing to you.
Manufacturers use energy-star label to promote a product as a money-saver.
They can put an Energy Star label on a giant 10,000 square foot house, and you know that cannot be the truth that a large house saves energy vrs a smaller house.

Energy factor, (energy factor/ not energy star) on the other hand, is a comparison measure how efficient the water heater uses energy to heat a gallon of water, when water heater is absolutely new.
EE3J50RD045V has energy factor of .59, which is completely typical and ordinary for electric water heaters.

The EE3j 50 gallon is an ordinary electric water heater, with ordinary average .59 energy factor rating, so electricity to operate this water heater is same as any other typical 50 gallon electric water heater: it will cost $35-45 a month depending on incoming water temperature, hot water use, thermostatic setting, electricity pricing, and whether you operate heater at peak pricing, etc.
http://waterheatertimer.org/9-ways-to-save-with-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-much-does-it-cost-to-run-water-heater.html

The most important measure of water heater cost does not have anything to do with Energy-star or energy-factor.
The most important measure is total cost of owning and operating the water heater.
So if you spend $100 more to purchase electric water heater with slightly higher energy factor, then it will not pay you back. The difference will be $2 to $4 per year.
All costs are energy.
The total cost of operating water heater includes purchase price, installation cost, cost of repairs, cost of parts, whether you can fix it yourself, expected life of water heater, and replacement cost.
Every water heater has expected lifespan, and will not have resale value except current price of scrap.

Electric water heaters cost more to operate per month than same-size gas water heater.
Gas water heater might cost less over the life of water heater, but gas water heaters are increasingly expensive to repair, and increasingly more complicated, and cost more up-front to buy.

Electric water heaters cost less to buy, are easy to install yourself, are fully repairable by homeowner using generic off-the-shelf parts, and can be made to last many years by keeping tank clean and replacing anode rod every 2 years.
You can make ordinary 6-year electric water heater from box store last almost indefinitely.
Avoid electric water water heater that has electronic controls.

I own a house with an electric GE hot water heater. 8ESOT12AA01 Serial # 090122 5750 I do not know how old the hot water heater is and advice about when it should be replaced. No leaks to date but I...

GE is made by Rheem, but the market is always changing. Rheem-based serial number shows tank was made in 1990.
Tank will last as long as anode rod(s) protects steel tank from rusting.
If your tank has two anode rods, then tanks lasts longer.
That's how companies determine if water heater is '6-year' or '12-year.'
I don't have manual for your product to say if you have 12 year tank. Side of tank might have information blurb besides mandatory label that shows serial number.
You can update your water heater by replacing anode rod(s) assuming they can be loosened and removed after this number of years, which is a big IF with old heaters. Your plumber might have impact wrench he uses to see if anode can come out.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Replace-anode-rod.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/Leaking-water-heater.html

If the water heater is making gurgling rumbling and/or crackling sounds then tank has sediment build-up.
You can also get a baseline of rust by flushing tank and watching if water is very rusty.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Clean-sediment-out-of-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-will-not-drain.html

If you flush tank regularly, and inspect anode every 1-3 years, a tank will last many years longer than manufacturer's label.

My water heater just quit heating all at once

These heaters are an instaneous heater. Check the power supply at the switchboard. If okay the most obvious problem will be a blown/faulty element.

I have a six month old Reliance 40 gallon water electric heater,The thermostats keep shutting the heating rods down, leaving only cold to lukewarm water, no matter how much I adjust the thermostat readings...

1) Try changing both thermostats. Thermostats are frequently defective. Don't change 1, change both, using generic parts from hardware or home center or plumbing supply.
Be sure to put-back insulation and cover over thermostats so they are not exposed to cooler air and cause misread of tank temperature.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html

2) Next step would be complete 30 minute troubleshoot, that would isolate the problem and give understanding of water heater operation.

Hi..my name is Keith...you can try to blow air into the drain valve to unclog the debris and see if it will drain..but if it has that much debris i think i would replace the hot water heater..also it has a sacrificial rod inside of it..and if it is melted away then the water will eat at your heaters liner and will eventually eat a hole in it...i hope this has helped
