SOURCE: Model LT2000 hydrostatic drive wont

If the main drive belt, from the engine to the rear end of the tractor broke, you won't move, nor will you hear a whining or grinding noise!
An easy check- inspect if each rear wheel has a key installed between it and the axle shaft. One pops out- it won't drive. The key is a square piece of hardened steel that is inserted into the axle, then the wheel hub is slipped over it and the axle, then the necessary fastener is installed to keep the wheel on. This could be either a bolt, or a spring clip. And, if the transmission has failed, you may or may not hear any whining or grinding noises!

My guess it the drive belt is toast as you said it was smoking, look at it and the order a new one. Here is a site you may be able to download a manual, Tim:

Will a toro rear end work on a craftsman 42 in?

I'am not sure, but a Craftsman tractor has a Peerless Transaxle, model # LTH2000. You didn't say,if the tractor you have is a manual transmission or a transaxle type.I will say this, that at Craftsman, they usually have their own brand of transmissions. Another brand might not be adaptable. I know this answer, may not be what your looking for. There is so many, ways a transmission can be installed on the different, brand of tractors. I would call Sears, and ask them,if a Toro would adapt,to a Craftsman tractor, you might get lucky. Sincerely,Brad Locke 11/23/15

Peerless tecumseh transmission model mst-206-545c will not drive in gear

FYI I have a Craftsman LT1000 18HP twin opposed Briggs with a Peerless transaxle 206-545c 6 speed manual trans (not the Hydrostatic). I was given this Lawn tractor by a friend who took real good care of it. runs starts great but it started binding in 3rd gear and was very hard to get it out.of gear so by pushing the cluch/brake in and out manytimes and forcing forward into 4,5,6 gears I was able to get it out of 3rd.

Iam a mechanic and have over 30 years I decided to research the Peerless 206-545c transmission I found some great info online and helpful repair vids on youtube. I decided to post here to try and help people that are having the same issue with this trans. after I got the tractor in the garage I noticed the left rear wheel was wet on the inside with gear I decided to do a rebuild.after learning about this transmission.I went to sears parts and put in my craftsman mower model number and it came up with a exploded view of the tecumseh\peerless 206-545c. on the diagram. I found the 2 transaxle seals needed item# 157 and for like 15 bucks ordered them. you can order all the seals if you choose.

I realized that there is a fill PLUG ONLY and no drain plug on the bottom of must take this transmission out of the tractor and lay it upside down in a oil catch pan and drain the fluid out. you must open the transmission all the way to replace the transaxle seals.Im told that most lawn tractors of today have disposable transmissions.another words they dont want you to fix them youreself they want you to bring it in so they can charge you to diagnose it and say yep you need a new transmission. lol thats why no drain if youre not a mechanic you gonna be payin boy..

I did find alot of BAD info in doing research on this transmission online ie: people posted wrong info saying that you just have to loosen all bolts on the trans case and you can put new seals in... VERY WRONG and the other wrong info was the amount of gear oil. the correct amount of 80w90w is 32oz 2/3 full from top(use a dowl or straw to measure. I use LUCAS high Performance. gear oil. I included a Tecumseh/Peerless link for you to check out. specs/tecumseh/Tecumseh_Transaxle_Service_Information.pdf scroll down to MST 200 series trans find the 206 545c documentation and it tells you every thing you need to know about the 206-545c ie 90/100 inch pounds when torqing bolts on case. shifting adjustment (ball hex screw adjustment) 1 full turn after flush with housing.etc. I was able to save this transmission I opened it up and cleaned every gear by hand with Seafoam trans cleaner and put it all back together using permatex (GEAR OIL GASKET MAKER) and waa laa it shifts amazing and no more leaking from axle seal. I get no benefit from posting this just want other people to have the correct info and for around 40 bucks you can recondition this trans.if you open it up and find broken gear or gears go to ebay or sears and get parts which ever fits your took about 6 hours total to de install transmission and clean gears and put new seals and re install back into the tractor. just to give you a time frame. if you dont have time to rebuild it go to ebay there are used complete transmissions there but I would rather know what I have by doing it myself than buying used that may have the same issue and cost ya 200 bucks.

It wont move i put it in reverce it wont move i put it in drive it wont move

check transmission fluid level could be low.if transmission fluid level okay and fluid and filter been changed every 21000 miles.code scan for transmission fault codes like faulty transmission range sensor.faulty transmission fluid pressure solenoid, look for faulty torque converter code or faulty tcm. if you see no fault codes.either transmission manual shift linkage loose or broken or you have internal transmission damaged.

When the mower gets hot, the transmission slips and the mower does not move. Any suggestioins?

Possibly the transmission can be serviced or exchanged with payment for a rebuilt one. Else you will need to find a new transmission which could well cost as much as a new mower, suppose a dealer's service desk would be the best place to ask.
The name and model of the manufacturer of the transmission is most likely stamped along one of the axle housings, you could do a google search or check ebay. Peerless makes a lot of them.
