Subwoofer with speaker wire?

So I got a new receiver to replace a out of the box theater system. I've been satisfied with my speakers, so I didn't feel it necessary to replace them, but I've run in to a problem.

My sub woofer connected to my previous system with regular speaker cable, and my new receiver only has a connection for what I assume is an RCA input.

Is there any kind of adapter out there that I can put on the speaker wire to make it work? I'd rather not have spend much more money on my system at this point, but everybody seems to think that I'd need to either get a separate amp or a new woofer to hook up.

Maybe I'm not understanding your question properly, bit if the subwoofer has speaker in and speaker out terminals, this receiver works exactly the same as your old unit. The speaker outputs of your new receiver, go to the speaker in jacks on your sub, and the speaker output jack on the sub, go directly to your speaker system. The newer systems that have a subwoofer output, sub out, and go to the sub in on you sub. It's just allot cleaner and only one RCA cable is used. Back in the old days, subwoofers were powered by the voltage from your receiver, through speaker wire.
Nowadays, subwoofers have their own power, hence not having speaker wire connections anymore.
It's unlikely that you'll be able to connect your old subwoofer to your new receiver.
You'd need to get a new one, which if you don't mind buying closeout, can be found on eBay pretty cheap.

How to connect new flat screen tv with hdmi cable to an olin ross sound system 6050 home theater 1000 watts

Evidently this system is a speaker system that hooks up to 5.1 home theater receiver. I've included a few quote on how to hook up the 6050 system:
" Measure and cut wires running from the speakers to the receivers"

"Run the wires from all speakers and the subwoofer to the back of the receiver".. The key is to have a home theater receiver, then you can hook up the TV to the receiver.

Why cant i get sound from my subwoofer? All wires and fuses r good but still no dound??

Check all of your connections and your receiver's surround
modes. Also, you may want to consult your troubleshooting
guide in your receiver's and subwoofers owner's manual.

Other than that, even though the receiver has been tested,
there might be a problem with the subwoofer output of the
receiver. You might also try different interconnects between
the sub and receiver -that could be the problem.

Has it worked in the past with this receiver and subwoofers?
Try it with just one subwoofer and see what happens. If you
still get no sound, then it might just be in your best interest
to get a new, higher quality receiver. That's what I did when
I ran out of help to get the subwoofer problem solved, and it
worked after replacing the receiver

I have the SB-HW950 subwoofer and teh SC-PT950 speakers and I just purchased a Denon Receiver to replace my DVD/ receiver player. So now I have SC-PT950 speakers playing through the Denon but for some...

Yes, the old Panasonic SC-PT950 did drive the subwoofer by its own amp, such as it was.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Panasonic-SC-PT950-Home-Theater-Systems-manual/id/2869dj183/t/2/

It's never a good idea to adapt prescribed connectors to bare speaker wire or vice versa.

Speaker Level and Line Level signals are worlds apart and equipment damage may result. Your Denon (model unknown) probably requires a POWERED SUBWOOFER, to which it would provide Line Level LFE from its Pre Out.

Read the manual where it doesn't say to convert a speaker wire to RCA.

I have a subwoofer with standard speaker wire connection, how to I attach to a receiver with a subwoofer cable?

The Subwoofer is Likely Passive....meaning no amplifier is within the enclosure itself....the incompatible connectors mean you cannot connect the subwoofer itself to your surround sound system.

look for a Suitable stand-alone (1 Channel) Amplifer with sufficent power.....connect the RCA Imputs (subwoofer cable) to the Recievers RCA subwoofer output....then connect the amplifier's output to the the wire going into the subwoofer enclosure....if there is a plastic connector simply cut it off and strip the wires down a sufficent lenght....then secure the wires to the output of the amplifier.

if you do this make sure you know the ohm rating of the subwoofer and the minimum ohm rating of the amplifier your using.

Subwoofer Connection: Speaker wire to Mono RCA

The easiest solution to use your subwoofer is to buy an amp for it. Any old stereo receiver from a garage sale will probably do just fine.
  1. Connect the mono RCA subwoofer output from your Sony with a 1xRCA-to-2xRCA splitter to both the left and right input of the cheap reciever's tape or aux input
  2. connect both speaker outputs of the cheap reciever to the speaker input on your subwoofer. make sure both black (-) outputs on the reciever connect to the black input on the sub, and the red outputs (+) on the reciever are both connected to the red input on the subwoofer.
  3. make sure the cheap receiver's volume is all the way down. turn your Sony up to about the loudest you'll listen to it. turn up the subwoofer amp until it's loud enough to sound good.
  4. leave the subwoofer amp alone, the Sony volume will all you ever need to touch from now on.

You can even now turn off your subwoofer / adjust the volume easily now!

Control and amplification circuit boards are not recieving power

If there are no visable ways to get into the box from the back then you must remove the speaker from the from and gain access through the hole the speaker came out of. It is not too uncommon for speaker units to built this way. Good luck.
