Open Question

Kubota t1400 Mower shuts down, checked all safety switches, appears to be gas flow problem, has an electric valve on the carb., part #830, could it be failing? If mower starts to die, I can through on the choke and it comes back to life, runs great but then starts acting like starving for fuel until I put back into choke position. Will easily restart, runs about 5 minutes, shuts down again

SOURCE: MTD Yardman push mower runs fine for awhile then cuts off.

Try buying a new plug first but if it continues then I would say that there is debris in the carb.

SOURCE: I have a Brigs&Straton 6.5 Quantum lawnmower will not stay running. I can keep it running by restricting the amount of air entering the carb with my finger (choking it) The mower will start if it

the problem is in your carb.,at the bottem of the carb. there is a bolt that threads in to the carb.pinch off the fuel line so that no fuel comes out after the fuel bowl is off the mower.now look into the bolt that you took off.there should be a hole oppisit the head of the bolt.there are also two holes that go through the sides.these holes are the fuel intake to the carb, the hole in the center is the fuel nozzle.most likely you have dirt blocking this hole and not letting the motor get enough fuel to run.thake some carb cleaner and spray it in the hole.take an air hose then blow the nozzle out.while you have the screw out take the bowl off and check to see if there is any water or dirt in the bowl.after cleaning.reinstall the bowl and start mower again.should be running ok now.if not let me know and i'll guide you through another fix.let me know if this helped or not................

SOURCE: craftsman eager-1 3.75 mower will not stay running

the engine is not getting enough gas. when you hold down the primer you are bypassing this problem. to fix this simply adjust the carb's fuel screw, located on the side of carb, a little at a time until runs smoothly.

SOURCE: My lawnboy 10304 runs about one minute and shuts down. Any ideas?

It sounds like it is 2 stroke.
Carefully remove the carb bowl, by undoing the brass bolt.
Examine the brass bolt for a small pin-hole in the side.
Use a piece of corn-broom NEVER anything else !!! and poke the hole(S) to make sure they are clear.
Blow out with air if available.
You can use this method to clean out all the carb orifices carefully.

Hope it helps,

Andy.

Gas keeps getting in with oil what do I do riding lawn mower

Happened to my Husky..Your mower is equipped with the EPA positive shutoff electrically operated valve on the bottom of the carb..it is designed to stop overflow of gas from the carb when the float sticks.. however when it fails the gas now flows back through the carb and into the cylinders and eventually filling up the crankcase and cylinders.. In stead of to the ground...You can replace it but eventually it will fail...the easiest and best fix is to put a easy to get to shut off valve between your tank and carb..When ever you shut your mower down for ANY reason turn off that valve before shutting it down..put mine on two years ago and hasn't failed me yet...Just need to remember never shut the mower down with out turning the gas flow off....NEVER....it may not fail but when you least expect it WALA oil in the gas...best is to shut the gas off and let it run for 20 seconds or so then shut the mower down..this assures no gas in the carb system cannot get into the oil...hope this helps pass it along to your friends as all newer motors are required to have them...good luck.

Gas in oil on a 23 horse brigs

If you are speaking a lot of gas..you have a sticking float in the carb bowl..at the bottom of the bowl there is a electrical positive shut off device..it is designed to stop gas from flowing out to the ground when the float sticks..unfortunately it then allows gas to go back through the intake and eventually into the cylinder and engine block..you can fix but will happen again so my suggestion for a never fail again is to MAKE SURE THE FUEL SHUT OFF IS SHUT OFF every I mean every time the engine is stopped..This will assure gas will not flow out of the tank when not running..if your mower does not have one..put one in the line between the tank and carb. Where you can get at it easly..one more thing I suggest when shutting the mower down for a period of time let it run for a while AFTER CLOSING THE SHUTOFF VALVE EVEN LET IT RUN OUT OF GAS this will make sure gas left in the carb will be used up and none will find its way to the block..make sure you chage the oil, filter and clean the plugs and cylinders to eliminate any existing gas in the oil system..it may burn white smoke for a little while from being in the muffler..but should clear up...REMEMBER SHUT GAS OFF EVERY TIME THE EGINE IS NOT RUNNING..and no more gas in oil...Good luck..

Why is gas in the oil

When the cylinder intake valve opens on the downstroke a fuel and air mixture is pulled in. Then when the piston is about to go up the valve closes. As the piston continues its upward journey the fuel/air mixture is compressed until at the top the mixture is ignited pushing the piston down. Compression is achieved by keeping a good seating of the valve and the compression rings on the piston. These rings move along the cylinder walls and are lubricated with the engine oil. As these rings and/or valves wear then they "leak" or lose compression. It seems the rings have lost sufficient seating to allow some of the fuel/air mixture to bypass them.

17.5 hp briggs and stratton mower - mowing fine - stopped to gas up - will not start back up - back fires a few times while turning motor over

sounds like you may have a broken valve spring. Do a compression test as you crank it. If the valve spring is broken, you will get nearly zero compression, it will turn over very easily and this would explain a couple of backfires.

My 25 horse kohler starts when I put gas in the carb, then shuts off. I have gas from the fuel pump--HELP!

first check for power going to the solenoid on the bottom of the carb its a anti backfire valve if you have power there when the key is cranking and when turned on the solenoid might just be stuck if that works maybe the gas that was left in the carb turn bad

While trying to start gas pourred out of the exhaust

The needle valve in the carb evidently is not seating and allowing way too much fuel to continually enter into the fuel system. Remove the carbs float bowl to check for this. Float pushed up...should be no gas flow...float hanging down..gas should flow. The needle valve is probably either sticking open or debris in the seating area is not allowing it to seat (which shuts off the gas flow).

My riding lawn mower won't start. New battery (cables & connections are clean), new filter, plug, rebuilt carb. It's getting spark but won't start? I cleaned the magneto and flywheel. Any other ideas?

Spray starting fluid into the air box if it starts and dies out there is a fuel delivery problem if the mower has a petcock fuel shut of valve disconnect the fuel line after the petcock and hold a container under the hose turn on the valve to ensure gas flow to carb if there is no petcock valve I would still check the line to carb make sure gas flows through the hose to carb.
