SOURCE: CUB CADET ZERO TURN Z-FORCE 3-BLADE CONFIGURATION

Under each blade is one single nut holding each blade on. It is not left-hand thread and there is nothing special about it.
Standard thread - Standard hardware - Standard tools. (If memory serves, you need a 15/16" socket to remove these.)
There is no need to index or time the blades. They cannot hit together unless something is bent or damaged on your mower deck.

Hope this helps,
Dolf-

SOURCE: I own a 42" Troy Bilt zero turn. The PTO switch

What the problem is (im not sure if they are called this) but the deck pulley brakes are worn out.
Basically if you look under the rider frame side (on top of the deck). There are on each side for each spindle pulley a flat metal tab. On the underside of that is just like a brake on your car. So when you raise the deck the pulley brakes hit the top of the pulleys and stop them from spinning. Which cause the blades to stop spinnign. There are probably turning at 10% of there normal speed. If that sound like what its doing check the brakes.
They are a replaceable part. Sorry I just cant remember exactly what they are called. Over the years they just wear out like a set of brake pads on your car. And the mower cuts and just work fine. Thats where I would start. When they wear out, the friction material is gone. Best Reguards, Premium FixYa Support

SOURCE: I have a JD 160

Most likely cause is the seat safety switch is not functioning properly, ie. when sitting in it to allow blades to engage, if failed it will act like there is no one on the mower and the blades get engaged it will kill the engine, like having the ignition shut off.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Check the blades are not bent or damaged, if ok check the deck alignment from side to side, measure the distance from the floor to the tip of the blade with the blade facing forward check both r/h and l/h blades.

I have a Toro 42 zero turn mower and the blades stop turning while mowing. The PTO switch knob melted. I replaced the PTO switch and the blades turned for 5 min. and then the PTO switch melted again.

Elertric blade drive clutches are a real pain when they go wrong
It sounds like a electrical short is causing the wires inside the switch to heat up beyond the safe melting point thereafter five mins the circuit gets between the fault gets broken as the switch fails the blades stop and the switch melts a bad eaRth corroded may cause this check the deck safety switches are not exposed e.g. they been damaged and the decks metal is shorting them out
a wire has been stripped of protective covering and is touching some metal shorting out something that vital to the blade controls operation the switch is getting a overload and subsequently melting your might need an lawnmower engineer to diagnose to the fault fully and repair

How do I change blades on a toro 42 in zero turn

Lift front of machine and secure,

Use a pipe wrench over top of blade and against deck, to keep blade from turning,

Use 1/2 " breaker bar to loosen bottom bolt,

Remove blade,

If the bottom bolt doesn't loosen, you may need a wrench at top of deck, above the bottom bolt, to loosen the bottom bolt.

Replace, or sharpen blades, install in reverse order.

GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Why when riding along mowing and the blades just quit turning, belt is not off?

If you hit a bump too hard, I believe it's equipped with a shock sensor that shuts down the blades or if you slightly lift off the seat the blades will shut off. If this is the case simply stop and restart the blade switch. Hope this helps

Your blades may be erroded on the edges? Or the center blade hub might be damaged or worn.

What would cause my craftsman zero turn to die when i engage the blades?

First, sort out between two possibilities: 1. The safety system is killing the engine -- for example, if the seat switch is faulty or misadjusted, the engine ignition is killed when you activate the blade engagement switch. 2. The blades, spindles, or belts are binding or stuck, which would "drag" the engine to a stop. I suggest you remove the belt that drives the mower from the engine. If the engine still dies when you engage the blade switch, it's problem #1. Check all connections, and check the seat switch with an ohmmeter. If the engine does not die, then you have mechanical drag. With engine off and the belts taken off, turn each spindle to find out if one is frozen or binding. Good luck!
