Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Lines at the top of screen

I have a Sylvania SRT2227S 27" television. I got the TV from a friend. When I plugged it in, there appeared to be nothing wrong, until I started changing channels. I noticed something strange, there were thin white lines across the top of the screen. But this didn't occur on all channels. It only appears on programs and commercials where the picture goes within an inch from the very top of the screen. It also occurs, when I change channels, the panel that displays the channel number, and name of the program appears to 'roll over' and appear upside down again on the top of the screen. This is very strange and I have never seen or heard of this happening before. I have no clue as to what is going on.

Check and replace all the electrolytic capacitors at its vertical output section. The lines you refer here are technically called, vertical retrace lines, and are mainly due to capacitors itself. Check all the solder terminals of vertical output IC for any loose solder terminals. Resolder all the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more solder to each point. When replacing capacitors stated above, replace them all at one time. There will be 5 of 6 numbers of them, the most, and wont cost more. If you wish to get more details, surf the following link. There are over two thousand and four hundred posts. All are related to television and other domestic electronic equipment service help. You can get a solution there. Type in the brand name to your device to its search box, can be located at the top right of the display window. It will make search easy. Hi Tammy, Yes it can be repaired, most companies charge about $250.00 to repair the convergence circuit. Have them check to see if the SRS/WOW 3D pcb has been modified also!

You have some bad capacitors. They are located very near and next to your vertical IC. I would guess you would have to replace maybe four of these! Thanks for asking!

If they are vertical lines, then the LCD panel is going bad, it will get worst with more lines appear as time goes on.

You have a vertical output circuit problem. This was common for Philips' sets. Have a repair shop check it out. Should not be too expensive to repair.

I have a Sylvania SRT2227S with video rollover a the top of the screen.

I am unfamilliar witht this model however it appears to sound like a Cathode ray tube Television , roll over is caused by a fault in the vertical frame output stage if it is an old Hybrid set it will probably be a vacum valve that controls this ( however havent seen this type in 20 years all transistor and intergrated circuit outputs now ) and repair should be undertaken by a qualified engineer . if an engineer is not available then someone with electrical knowledge and safety precaution training as the insides of these type of televisions generate lethal voltages at several points in the system . The coils around the tube base are the deflection controlers and they control the size and shape of the picture depending on the voltages and positioning of the screen mask's to shape and stabilize your picture . Any one touching these without the correct tools may damage the set further by distubing the convegence settings , in short I suggest that this is a job for a trained TV technician ... Try moving a medium powered magnet (not one for picking up heavy objects and not a refrigerator holding one) over the distorted area. If that doesn't work, try a more powerful one. This worked for my Toshiba LCD. Good luck!

Philips 27PT6441 27" TV Problem

jon5902,

Pls note that my experience is with the phillips 27" model27PT6341/07. It may not be the same board as yr model, as I can't remember nor find the service manual anymore. (browse around online for it though)

However, after taking the back off. Look close to the rca jack and svideo connection. Mine is located about an inch from the svideo connection.

Here are some pics that may help you.

The new one is the black and gold one marked 10uf 100v in the pic.
Other users have advised to go as high as 10uf 250v, to avoid having the cap overload again.

PS. I had the lines for about 2 weeks. They got steadily worse then one day my tv looked like it was broadcasting an hourglass. The lines converged in the center and flared outward (no pic).

Sylvania 27 inch stereo flat screen tv

This problem sounds like a short inside the picture tube itself unless a driver transistor failed that drives the red gun in the CRT. You may have to take it to an authorized repair facility if the picture tube is still in warranty.
