SOURCE: maytag refrigerator clicking

it sounds like a bad:

  • ·       start switch (on the side of the compressor) or
  • ·        compressor itself

the start switch clicks  off usually when the compressor is pulling too many amps or the compressor is overheating. if the compressor is not even running then its probably not overheating.
so either the compressor is pulling too many amps (bad compressor) or the start switch is bad and cannot handle the amps required to start the compressor.

remove the baskets and shelves in the freezer and remove the rear panels after shutting the fridge down. If you see heavy frost on the coils then the defrost model needs replaced. If not, check the that the fans runs, and then that the thermostat works and then that the damper that allows the air to the fridge compartment is opening correctly.

Problem seems to be solved. I unplugged it for a short time and plugged it back in. I'm guessing it needed to be re-set.

One of the lightbulbs in the refrigerator is out. There is a guard over it that I can't figure out how to remove.

It looks like the cover clips on at the base of the bulb. This is a picture of the diagram, but I can't tell exactly how the clip works. But by looking at the diagram and know where the clip is, maybe you can tell more by seeing it in person. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=48360&diagram_id=28491204#d28491204
Hope this is some help to you

Maytag 27.3 cu ft model #MSD2756GEW freezer freezing refrigerator side not cooling

Check the air damper if it opens as you adjust the temperature control. If yes then check the freezer fan motor. First, disconnect the unit from the power source then remove the freezer shelving.

Loosen the two top screws and remove the two bottom evaporator cover mounting screws then grasp the bottom of the cover then carefully pull it forward and down to clear the upper flange.

Disconnect the evaporator fan motor leads. The wire leads are self-locking and it is important to squeeze the clip before pulling the leads off the terminals.

Remove the evaporator fan motor assembly and place it on a work surface. Connect the motor terminals to a service cord and plug the cord into the 120 VAC power source. If the motor fails to operate, it is defective and must be replaced.

Here's the service manual for further troubleshooting.

The food and drinks in the refrigerator does not feel and taste cold enough. The freezer is just fine.

Check for proper operation of the freezer fan. This fan moves cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator. If the fan is not turning, the freezer will be too cold and the refrigerator will not be cold enough.

The fan should be behind an access plate at the rear of the freezer. Listen for the sound of the fan. If you can't hear it, remove the cover and look at the fan. If it's not turning, you will need to replace the fan motor.
