Problem installing Vista SP1 on Asus G2s

Have an ASUS G2s Vista Home Premium. Tried to upgrade to Vista SP1 but after upgrade on reboot Windows would not load and would not even allow a Vista repair disk to run or an F9 factory restore. I Booted it with a Windows 7 Installation disk but did not install 7 and then could use a Vista installation disk to repair by selecting to restore to a previous state - before SP1 was installed. Back to normal now but what should I do about upgrading to Vista SP1 and then SP2 without trashing the computer again.

The Windows 7 installation boot was just a way that I read about to fix the Blue Screen of Death created by the faulty attempted upgrade to Vista Service Pack 1. That boot deletes a corrupted file that then allows a Vista install disk to either re-install or repair Windows Vista. I only want to bring my now repaired Vista up to SP2.

OK, use Windows updates to Do all necessary pre-SP1 updates first, as you know, they must go in sequence , until Windows Updates offers SP1.

If you tried to install Vista on the Primary drive and formatted the primary HDD your Factory Recovery Partition , most likely has been written over, it's gone. Choose one or the other , Vista or Win 7, start from the beginning, install a clean Vista load, formatting in the installation procedure, form a Vista Installation DVD, follow instructions, boot up, do ALL the Vista Updates, it will take hours of updates, rebooting, updates, rebooting. You will get to the Service Pack's 1 and 2, in 24 hours or so. Put on a pot of coffee and be patience. If you prefer Windows 7 use the same procedure.

SOURCE: I can not reboot my Dell Studio XPS 1645 running

Sounds like you've tried everything except a complete reinstall. If there is information you need off that computer the hard drive will need to be taken out and plugged into another PC as a second hard drive then all can be copied. Then try a complete reinstall and good luck with that. If any problems doing a reinstall i would look at the ram. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

Did you do ALL your windows update before the Service Pack? That SP has been out for years? Doesn't your laptop have Windows Updates set to Auto? Choose one or the other, Vista or Win 7 and do a Full Install.

HP doesn't have a Vista driver for Scanjet 3400c. I'm afraid your scanjet isn't compatible with Vista.

Make sure that you have the lastest Firmware installed in your BIOS.

Also run Windows Vista Upgrade Wizard before installing Vista to check for compatability.
