Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Asus g2s Have an ASUS G2s Vista Home Premium. Tried to upgrade to Vista SP1 but after upgrade on reboot the Windows would not load and would not even allow a Vista repair disk to run or an F9 factory restore. I Booted it with a Windows 7 Installation disk but did not install 7 and then could use a Vista installation disk to repair by selecting to restore to a previous state - before SP1 was installed. Back to normal now but what should I do about upgrading to Vista SP1 and then SP2?

This was my son's laptop that was not used for more than a year. I did all the updates that Windows update found, until the attempt to update to SP1 caused a Blue Screen of Death. The Windows 7 install disk was used based on a posting that said that booting that install disk, would fix the problem causing the BSOD and then allow a Vista install disk to repair windows. It worked but I am now fearfull of trying to run SP1 and eventually SP2.

Did you do ALL your windows update before the Service Pack? That SP has been out for years? Doesn't your laptop have Windows Updates set to Auto? Choose one or the other, Vista or Win 7 and do a Full Install.

SOURCE: acer aspire 5580 upgraded with

From looking at the Acer support site it looks as if they haven't sorted out the driver files for Window 7 yet for the Bison, Logitech and Suyin webcams. I've had mixed success in the past by downloading and installing the older drivers for Vista but it's pretty hit and miss. Hopefully the afore mentioned manufacturer's are working on providing updated drivers for Windows 7 very soon.

SOURCE: Asus X83V. Want to upgrade from Vista 64 to

Hi barbara,

I see that you are wanting to Upgrade from Vista 64 to Win7 64.

You also mentioned that the Upgrade Advisor told you to check with Asus, I guess you may need to since Asus will be able to tell you if they will have all the drivers Needed for your machine to run in Win7 64 bit, Win7 64 bit is a new Operating system and still has issues with drivers for devices such as wirelss card and video cards, also has issue with compatibilty with programs.

I also suggest that you call Asus for further details regarding this concern.

Have a nice day.

Problem installing Vista SP1 on Asus G2s

If you tried to install Vista on the Primary drive and formatted the primary HDD your Factory Recovery Partition , most likely has been written over, it's gone. Choose one or the other , Vista or Win 7, start from the beginning, install a clean Vista load, formatting in the installation procedure, form a Vista Installation DVD, follow instructions, boot up, do ALL the Vista Updates, it will take hours of updates, rebooting, updates, rebooting. You will get to the Service Pack's 1 and 2, in 24 hours or so. Put on a pot of coffee and be patience. If you prefer Windows 7 use the same procedure.

G2s black screen during boot up

Do you see a "ghost image" on the monitor in a bright light? If so your backlighting isn't working. That can be a couple of things, A tiny switch, thet turns the monitor on and off when you open and close the lid. It can get stuck or damaged. It's located near the hinges. OR a ribbion cable located a the rear of the monitor may not be making a good connection. OR your backlighting may be out completely. It's difficult to say exactly.

Asus G2S back light screen faulty

Price inverter for your laptop screen. Have it professionally installed unless you know hardware, static, etc. It can be a big job with some laptops being completely dismantled to access the inverter. I've done quite a few. Some laptops have a bezel that is very difficult to open. (Like working on a dollar store toy--only it costs $1000!

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen
