Pull starter string is broken

Hi ed this is a time consuming one. Firstly remove the starter head and turn it over. Then by hand turn the cord holder anti clockwise by hand until the spring inside cant turn no more. Get some one to hold the whole lot and then try and thread the new string through until it goes through the hole in the pully. When its in Tie a big knot in the end and then pull the cord down so its tight. Release the cord pully slowly and it should retract back in with the strength of the spring. This should fix it.

Need to replace broken pull rope

you will need to remove the four bolt on the shroud, and the one on the oil stick. Once the bolts are removed tip shroud upside down and wind clockwise/counterclockwise which ever put tension on the pulley, then wind it six or seven times, line the two holes up, the one the cord goes through the outside and the one on the plastic piece inside the shroud, pull the cord through, let go and it will wind, tie a knot on the one on the inside of the shroud and singe the end of the knot. Pull on the cord a few times to make sure it going to hold, put shroud and oil stick back on, thread cord through handle. Hope this helped Tim

I have an old radio with a dial tuner that has stopped working. I've opened it up and found the thread that goes around the spindle is broken. I could replace that but I can't figure out the route the...

The thread is called teh dial-cord and should be replaceable even with a heavy carpet thread. You are correct in that the routing is critical. There should also be a spring on at least one end of the cord. If the cord has just broken, you should be able to see the current route and jsut follow that route with the replacement cord. Get the cord tight with some tension on the spring. The spring should be able to take up any slack that occurs if the thread stretches a bit.

Broken recoil start on tecumseh 6.5 hp

broken cord? remove bolts holding recoil housing.lift housing straight up,you may have to wiggle it a bit.turn housing over, remove any cord thats left, note how & where it connects to the spool.wind the spool [and consquently the spring under it]in the direction the cord would turn it as pulled when starting.hold spool tight.thread new cord through hole in housing.let spool turn back just enough to attach new cord.hold cord & housing, let spring "re-coil" cord slowly.check for smooth operation.replace may need to pull cord slightly to align 'square' shaft w/hole in spool.only after you are satisfied with the operation of it adjust length of cord by pushing excess cord through the handle, tie a new knot, then cut off excess,if any.

How to sort broken pull cord on petrol strimmer

Hi Baz, i will tell you a generic way of doing this as i don't know the model of your strimmer.
on the pull cord housing you will have 3 or 4 screws to secure the housing to the motor body, undo these. the housing will lift away from the main motor body, underneath this cover you will see a spring canister, there may be a screw or clip keeping this in place or some are just secured with the outcover. remove this canister you should see a coil spring in the middle and a groove around the outside where the cord goes. you should see a knot inside the cord grove where the cord is threaded through to secure, remove thisand remove old cord. Now the trickky bit! some times it helps to have a helping had, you will need to turn the coil spring so it tights up to its full tightness, then thread the new cord into the secureing hole where the old cord was located, then when you release the spring this will coil the cord round the cord groove. replace the pull handle on the end of the cord so there is no slack and replace on to motor in reverse order. Hope this helps.
