Trying to do a repair installation

My acer laptop showed the BSOD screen, I tried all teh options available, last known godd fig, safe mode, start widows as normal etc but they dont work, I still see the Bsod screen. I am now trying to boot my laptop from CD, I put the windows boot CD into the laptop. I am now looking at a screen with a number of options. The screen is titled PhoenixBIOS setup utility. The suboptions include Information, Main, Security, Boot and exit. What do I do to repair my PC and keep all my files intact????? Thanks

Re: trying to do a repair installation

OK, that screen is the bios for the laptop. Don't do anything in there. (except check under boot and make sure the boot order is cd then hard drive) Once the boot order is correct, just boot from the cd rom, and to do a repair, just keep continuing past where you are asked to enter F-8, the next screen will offer a repair for the windows installation- press R. That keeps your files and programs, but reinstalls windows. Good luck

My Acer aspire turns on shows windows logo then goes to black screen, what can I do?

Depending on your version of windows, I would trying starting in safe mode to see if the computer does boot. If it does, then you want to restart again, go to advanced boot options and select "start windows with last known good configuration." Access advanced boot options following the steps at this link. My laptop wont come on a screen keeps coming up asking to repair or start windows normally i have tried both without success

When was the last time you were able to use your computer?
Did you installed any software recently in your computer?
Try pressing F8 on startup and use the Last Known Good Configuration. May be that will help.

Netbook Acer Oner N270 Atom 1.6GHz doesn't start, I tried to run a chkdsk thru F8, but the sistem prompt never shows up when I ran in safe mode with command prompt. Thru F8 i was able to see a while...

Did you try to go back to last known configuration in the F8 option
or the repair option
failing that try a system restore in the F8 option back to when it was running ok

failing that also you could try to get back into safe mode
go to start run/search box
type in cmd
this Will bring up a black box
type in CHKDSK
that should check disk and hopefully give option of repair disk as well
but it will take some time but be patient

Or try to get to the acer recovery
i have never tried the recovery in safe mode but it hopefully will except it then restart into the recovery management

this is where you find it ( in or out of safe mode )
start programs
acer empowering technology
acer erecovery management
follow on screen instructions

good luck
hope you get sorted

STOP: 0x0000000024 that is the error message I am receiving and can't seem to get past the screen that gives you the option to start in safe mode

if this happens when starting to boot to Windows, try last known-good config. When system is restarting, tap F8 a couple of times to get to the Advanced Options menu where Safe Mode is also listed. Select Last Known-Good Configuration if available and press Enter. If this does not work, try selecting Safe Mode. If you can get to Safe Mode, you can try System Restore to a previous restore point available when your system is working properly. If none of the things work, try Windows repair or reinstall. Make sure to try to backup data if you can before doing any reinstall or repair.

When i go to start it up, it shows the Windows XP loading screen, then a black then blue screen flash for less than a 1/2 second.

It's called a BSOD which means blue screen of death. try to boot into safe mode by pressing F8 as soon as the computer starts hit it repeatedly, then try last known configuration that worked. If that doesn't work, reboot and try F8 again and go to safe mode, then do a system restore.

The ACER Aspire 5610Z is stuck, upon rebooting, on the large ACER Intel window. I push the start button for a length of time, and it won't restart. What else can I do? The problem arose upon a reboot after...

Try booting into safe mode. When the computer is just starting, tap the F8 key and keep tapping it until the safe mode options come up. Select "Last Known Good Configuration" and let it continue booting from there. Once inside Windows, check Windows Update to see if your computer had tried to install update KB977165. This recent update has been known to cause problems in XP, including the dreaded BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), due to malware infections. You may want to try the ESET online scanner on your machine and possibly Malwarebyte's Antimalware, available at Always keep running the scans until your computer comes up clean.
