Hello Patty,
Have you tried dragging the files to your desktop and try opening them that way? if not open up your word or excel program and locate the file by using file and open.. also I would drag and place pictures to a new location other then the files folder that it was saved on.

SOURCE: Downloading using vista

Hello,
I've found a couple of solutions, some might not be exactly what your looking for. EDIT: Soultion #2 should be your answer...

Solution #1 - Change the Documents Folder Template

  1. Click the 'Start' pearl (button)
  2. Under your name and icon, you should see the 'Documents' option.
  3. Right click 'Documents' and then select properties.
  4. The window should pop up and read 'Documents Properties'
  5. Click the 'Customize' Tab
******* Soultion #2
  1. Go into your documents folder.
  2. Off to the left side you should see the 'folders' section
  3. Under 'Desktop' you should see the folder with the windows account username. Go into that folder.
  4. Under the the folder you should see all of the default Vista folders, EX: Contacts, Deskop, Documents, etc.
  5. You can right click each folder and select properties, then under the 'Location' tab you can select the location of all of the files, and such where you want them to be.
Hopefully this helps you out, my directions could have been a bit rough if you have any problems please reply to the post!

SOURCE: dektop icons doesnt show up! cant open control panel!

Sounds like something viral to me. If you are able to connect to the Internet I would suggest downloading and running a tool called combofix. Information on how to use it and links to download are here. I've used this on several XP systems to get rid of some nasty stuff, but never had to try it on Vista yet. If the trouble is not from a virus but just because something else has thoroughly screwed up the registry, you might have to restore your system.

How can i delete a user account from my macbook osx

Hiya. So long as it's not the main (Administrator), account it's pretty straightforward:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.

1. Click the lock icon to unlock it, and type an administrator name and password.
2. Select the user account you want to delete, and then click the Delete (-) button.
3. Click OK to save the user's files on the computer, or click Delete Immediately to remove the user account and all the user's files. If you saved the user's files, they are stored in a disk image in the Deleted Users folder, in the Users folder. To see the saved files, double-click the disk image in the Deleted Users folder. To delete the user's files, drag the disk image to the Trash.

Hope this helps :)

Password cracker

You need the original install disks for you OS. Start the install process and then use the Password Reset tool to change the admin password. Once you are able to log in as admin, you should be able to see your old account in the System/Users folder. You should be able to directly access it, or you should be able to use the "Get Info" on the account's folder and change the permissions that way.

I have a Compaq notebook and the keyboard is not working under the administrator. It works fine under any other user. I've tried to update and uninstall drivers with no success. Also I cannot hit...

Hi,
if the keyboard is working in any other user account . The user account has gone corrupt. You can recreate a new admin account. But before you do that back up all the my documents folder.

1. Restart the computer and press the F8 key a couple of times before windows starts
2. Select safe mode and press enter
3. Select the admin account and log in
4. Click on Yes to continue to work in safe mode

create new account in windows Xp
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/accounts.mspx

Create a new account using windows vista
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

Once the new account is created you and delete the old admin account

Thanks

Is there a disk or something i can get to unlock my ibook

The only way to reset the Administrator password is with a Mac OS X installation disc, which matches the current version of operating system you have on your Macbook.

If you do not, there is a workaround procedure that I can provide for you, which can allow you to gain access into your user account. I am not sure if that is the way you want to go in regards to getting back to your iBook in order to use it.

Here is that procedure:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} -RESETTING ADMIN PASSWORD w/o USING STARTUP DISC-

To reset your OS X password without an Mac OS X CD or DVD (for Tiger and Leopard), you will need to enter Terminal and create a New Administrator Account:

Here is what you will need to do:
• Reboot your Mac
• Next hold Apple Command key + S key (Single User mode) down after you hear the Apple chime.

• When you see the text prompt, type in the following terminal commands to create a brand new Admin account (hitting Return after each line):
mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now

After rebooting you should have a brand new Administrator account.

** When you login , it will be the new administrative account.

You should now have access into your iBook.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For getting back your home folder from your previous account, you will need to actually delete your
previous user account, however, you will also be able to save the Home Folder of that previous account.
To that follow these step:

Click on the Apple menu icon, located in the upper left corner of your screen and select System Preferences.

* Now select Accounts and once the window opens, click the padlock in the lower left corner of the Accounts window and now use your new password to access this Accounts window.

* Now select the affected user account and click the "-" Minus button.

* A prompt will appear asking if you want to delete that user account.

* You need to select the "OK" button- DO NOT select the Delete Immediately button, otherwise you will delete the complete user account and the Home Folder, which is your target.

* When you click the "OK" button, give it a few minutes and it will disappear.

* Now close out of the Accounts window and System Preferences, and click on the Macintosh HD on your desktop.

* Now look for the folder entitled "Deleted Users" folder and open it.

* You should now see a .DMG file labeled with the deleted user account name- i.e: -"username.dmg"

You can now double-click and open the file and you will see the entire Home folder (all of the files and folders) of the deleted user account.

If you have reached this point, you should now have a new User Administrator Account and now access to your old Home folder.

That should do it.

If you have any issues with this procedure, just reply back to this post.

Thanks!

Regards,

-Mactechtrainer

My dell c 521 is "split" - his n' hers can I combine into one usre without losing info

The answer is "YES!" If you have two (2) accounts open on one (1) computer; when closing one ("Deleting") an account, you will be given the option of saving" Files, Data, Pictures etc" to Folders that will be placed on the open account's "Desktop". You can also transfer Files etc, to the User account: example; Move, Send to: open "Documents" in (Active) "User's" account, and "Drag & Drop." To start, go to: Control Panel, change User's account. There are other options aswell; change (Password)... "Apply, and click "OK! " I hope this helps Ya"

Accidentaly deleted my user account. Can i retrieve it back?

It is possible that it is still there.. If you are using XP you eill have to look on the
  1. My Computer
  2. C: drive(If that is where your windows is)
  3. Documents and settings
  4. Look to see if you see the deleted user account. You will not be able to restore the account, but you might MIGHT be able to gain access and use the file that are in there...
Good luck

Will not save

Are you logging in as a different user ? Goto START then CONTROL PANEL then USER ACCOUNTS. If you are the only user of the computer, then you can delete all users except administrator. You then can reboot and windows should log you in as admin only. Just make sure you have the proper password. Please note that you can only delete use accounts if you have that privilege. If you don't then you need to goto START, then LOG OFF. Then you can log in a admin but again, you need the admin password.

I cannot remove a folder on my desktop

This is happening because you just copied the folder over from the other user. The system thinks that you do not have the right to delete is cause it is registered under that user. (which is gone now). The only think I can think of is to log in as an administrator under safe mode and try deleting it that way then rebooting. Tap the F8 key on boot up to access safe mode options.

Try putting your info, files, software, etc in the shared folder in my computer. That should share it with the other user accounts. Then on the other accounts just go to the shared folder and the goods should be there. Hope this helps. M~
