Battery went dead from non-use. When I attempted tostart up, it went to the Welcome Screen and then to the Align Screen, and froze after aligning. I attempted to initialize the PDA and the same thing occurs. I stops after screen alignment and eventually shuts down.

I have the same problem. After resetting the pda with the hard restart, the initialization freezes after the alignment screen and never completes the restart. I have tried this several times with the same result. Any other suggestions other than hard restart?

WizAlways start with the simplest answer first, so start by removing any memory cards, attached devices and cables and resetting it again.
If you still have the same problem check the manual for the Hard Reset procedure, it may seem you've already hard reset it by killing your battery but it's worth a try anyway when your getting this kind of issue.
