What may have happened is the steam/water may have gotten in to the motor some how and is shorting it out.
When a fuse trips, the current was to high. If the fuse keeps tripping, you really have a problem. It could be as simple as a defective capacitor, but also a shortage in one of the coils. It would be wise to bring the VAX to a repair shop and ask what it will cost to repair. Sometimes when they need to replace a motor, you are better of with a new machine.
I hope it is a minor defect.
You may have a stuck relay or one of your access port switches may be bad. According to the owners manual: "A complete check of all Wall Inlet and Power Unit low voltage control lead connections (external yellow leads). Turn system off by removing fuse or tripping circuit breaker at house fuse box."
clean and wash all of the filters as this can cause the motor to run hot triping th thermal fuse. aslo dirt cannister pulled apart and rinsed through till clean helps.
