I have an Acer Aspire x1700 and it will not reboot, I cannot locate the reboot disk. How can you help?

Yuo need a lot of try and error to be successful.
First your OS and the BOOT disk that comes with your machine. But if you dont had the CD you need to buy and download it.
Store like Bestbuy,CompUSA,etc.. sell this CD,s or go to this LINK where you can buy it online and download it, choose your OS and any other specs about your System.
After all you need to BURN the files in a blank CD or order for mail shipment.

Then we going to BOOT the system id the CD drive.

To rebuild your hard drive, do the following:
  1. Power up your Acer system.
  2. When prompted (after memory testing completes), press CTRL + ALT + ESC to enter CMOS setup.
  3. At the CMOS Setup screen select Advanced BIOS Features
  4. Verify the Boot Options Sequence is set to the following order:
    1st [CD-ROM]
    2nd [Floppy Disk]
    3rd [Hard Disk]
  5. Insert the Acer System CD, DISK 1 in your CD-ROM drive.
  6. Press F10 to exit and save. When prompted, Do you want to save CMOS data?, select [Yes], then press ENTER.
  7. The system will reboot from the CD-ROM. After booting from the CD-ROM, you will see the Acer Hard Drive Rebuild options displayed.

Note: Use your mouse for choice selections during the HDD recovery process. The mouse will respond slowly during this procedure, DO NOT press the Enter key. Pressing the Enter key will cause the HDD recovery process to terminate.
  8. Select HDD Full Rebuild and follow the on-screen instructions.
  9. When prompted to insert Acer Recovery CD, DISK 2, wait for the CD-ROM to eject DISK 1.
  10. Close the CD-ROM tray and click OK. The system will continue to rebuild the hard drive back to factory load.
After being prompted to remove disk and restart system the unit will load system software and hardware. During this process the system will reboot several times.
Your Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) ID number will automatically be entered for you. Should you need this number for any reason, look for your Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) ID number on the cover of your system.

I want to use the scan fuction, and am told to load cd rom. I have a acer 5315-2808 computer and the cd rom does not fit the spindle of my cd reader.

Hi,

Your computer can not scan on its own, you need a scanner, you need to install the scanner with the cd that came with the scanner or post the brand and model and I will see if the software is available online.

No dvd/cd rom icon

From what I read, Acer Empowering software is no big deal. Some say it's fine, others say nothing worthwhile. If you aren't thrilled with it, you might consider uninstalling it and seeing if it brings your CD-rom back. If you want to keep it or uninstall of Empowering software doesn't work, uninstall the CD-rom and then let Windows rediscover and install it again.

Go into Device Manager, right click on CD-rom and choose uninstall. Close out and restart.

HP Solution center doesn't start...

I'll assume that you actually have an HP printer (or scanner) attached to this unit.

Uninstall the HP drivers and software which came with your HP printer (or HP scanner) and reinstall it from the driver discs (reinstalling the HP software over the existing installation may take care of it also). If you don't have the discs that came with your HP equipment please post what model you have and I will track down a link for you to download the necessary stuff for reinstall.

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop that has been giving me problems. I tried to do a system restore but it will not boot up off of the CD. I have tried F8 but and that gives me a number of options but...

Hi Lindsay,

That's too bad about your system.

First, what kind of problems were you having as the reason for wanting to perform a system restore?

If your system will not boot off the CD, then it might not be #1 in the BIOS order. Try this:

  • Power up your Acer system.
  • When prompted (after memory testing completes), press CTRL + ALT + ESC to enter CMOS setup.
  • At the CMOS Setup screen select Advanced BIOS Features
  • Verify the Boot Options Sequence is set to the following order:
    1st [CD-ROM]
    2nd [Floppy Disk]
    3rd [Hard Disk]
  • Insert the Acer System CD, DISK 1 in your CD-ROM drive.
  • Press F10 to exit and save. When prompted, Do you want to save CMOS data?, select [Yes], then press ENTER.

    CD ROM Boot

In the BIOS are you able to "discover" the CD-ROM device? There should be a way such that you can specify what devices are connected to the system.

The BIOS version should recognize what devices are attached to the system.

You may need to "flash" (upgrade) the BIOS. Now a days, BIOS upgrades are available on the manufacturer's website.

Hope this helps :) Kindly leave a rating. Thanks..
