Question about Pool & Spa

How to get this thing running?

I just bought this house that has an above ground pool and all of the equipment seems to be here. I've never owned a pool before and I am trying to figure out how all this works and what needs to be done to get it operating. As far as I can tell it has a Hayward Turbo Flo II pump and Hayward SP704 Multiport Valve. Is there anything I should do to ensure proper function before connecting all the parts together? Also the pool is full of dirty water that has probably accumulated over a few years of inactivity. I'm not sure how to drain it, if using the "waste" setting is correct or if I need to find another way to drain the sludge. Here are some images of the equipment and set-up: Pump - I removed the basket for cleaning http://imgur.com/INLdZs6 Place to put pump? http://imgur.com/ODe9iOQ SP704 Valve http://imgur.com/lKEfm3q Pool with sludge in it http://imgur.com/B5WQxUp I greatly appreciate any help with this, I think one of the biggest problems I'm facing is how to drain this thing legally and effectively. We have city bylaws against standing water like this due to West Nile and I would really like to use this pool. Thanks Ryan

To drian the pool, I would borrow a sump pump from family/ friend and just pump it out. It does not take that long....my son does it every year and it's fairly effective.
Let me know how you do!!!

SOURCE: air in filter on hayward above ground pool.

This is common the first 30-60 seconds after turning the filter on. The filter is purging its self of the air, sometimes algae or small debris will shoot back into the pool as well.

If it is constantly getting air then replace your o-ring on the that clear cover (Strainer Cover) make sure you use a lubricant, and like djtc66 said re-wrap all threaded areas with teflon tape.

SOURCE: problems with hayward vari flow valve.

It sounds like you might just need to replace your valve. They are fairly inexpensive. Try contacting this company. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do (free advice) and will have the parts necessary if you do need to buy a new pool filter or new parts.

Select 'Pumps: above ground' or scroll down to same
Typical troubleshoot section:
Low flow "Check for clogged strainer or suction line, plugged discharge line, air leak in pipes or tubing, bad impeller"
Noisy pump "Check for air leak, foreign matter in pump housing, worn out bearings etc"
Air in line due to loose pipe or tube, clogged intake and outfow, and bad pump is common to both symptoms.

WHAT AND HOW DO YOU VACUUM INTEX ABOVE GROUND SALT WATER POOL

I used the manual vacuum that came with the pool during the summer because I actually got in the pool and vacuumed), but ultimately, now that it is cold, I went to the pool store and bought a much bigger vacuum (that still hooks up to the water hose) and then a longer pole. It's just too darn cold to get in the water during the winter. :-) Hope this helps!

My husband converted our 27 x 52 round above ground pool over to saltwater two weeks ago and we have yet to be able to get in it to swim. We drained all 18,700 gallons, scrubbed the liner and refilled the...

Wrinkles in your pool liner wall is a slight problem and can be a place for algae to grow, BUT can be treated and cleaned.. Algae will appear if your not providing the correct amount chlorine, regardless of wrinkles or not.. Let me tell you how I take care of my 14,500 gallon 18' X 33' X 48" pool using only the 8110 Intex model and hope you can apply some of my techniques to your pool and system...
In the 2 years I've own my system, I have not added any chlorine, even for those times my system failed and water turned green.. Yes.. I could have bought SHOCK and CHLORINE and added to my pool to kill the algae, but chose to vacuum, brush and set my chlorinator to max and did it without buying any of these expensive chemicals.. It took over 3 days to finally see results after running my system at at 12 to 14 hrs pump and 10 to 12 hrs chlorination.. After my pool cleared and chlorine level was at optimal, I lowered my chlorination to around 6 to 8 hrs.. Right now that the temperature is around 95 degrees, I run the pump for 12 hrs and chlorinate for 10.. My chlorine level is slight low and today I plan to raise my chlorination to 11 hours.. My pool water right now is crystal clear and clean. I vacuum my pool daily and check the electrolytic cell weekly for optimal results..
Now...you have a huge above ground pool, almost 19,000 gallons!!! To start.. you should have added almost 500 lbs of salt!!! and ran the pump only for over 24 hrs to properly dissolve the salt..
Next, you should test the water salt concentration level and should have been between 2000 and 3000 ppm. After the proper level and because your pool is so big, run your pump at 12 hrs or longer and possible 10 to 12 hrs chlorination...
You said the manual vacuum sucks up the liner??? They sell a nifty device that hooks up at the end of the hose and attaches at the skimmer inlet that has a relief spring activated door that prevents sucking up the liner and also, you may to look for a different vacuum head???
Bottom line... NO, the only way to clean the algae is NOT with vacuum and brush only..It could be done with SHOCK and CHLORINE.. I chose not to add shock and chlorine to mine.. But you will need to vacuum the dead algae and clean you filter several times..One more thing... I hope your chlorinator is big enough for your size pool.. The max gallons the manual shows is for a 14500 gallons, like mine... Good luck and hope this info helps...

I have an 18 X 33 oval and temparatures here range from 80 to 102 in the summer. I run my cycles at 10 to 12 hrs pump with 8 to 10 hrs chlorinator. Water stays crystal clear, no cloudy.. Now...if you don't keep the electrolytic cell clean and maintain the proper salt levels, you will struggle with making free chlorine...

Robo - Kleen Above Ground Robotic Pool Cleaner seems to be leaking oil? Also, fan does not seem to be running all the time?

Motor is in oil bath. When it leaks that means water is getting into motor housing. Try and take apart to clean and dryout. Then needs to be sealed and filled with oil. This worked with mine not sure what type oil. Looks like mineral oil or something similar.

There are two things that you can check yourself if these pool cleaners are not moving properly. First, check the impeller. Make sure that the transformer is unplugged and take the top grill off by removing the 2 screws from the top. Check for debris and remove if you see anything. Replace the grill and tighten the screws before you try the cleaner again. Also, check your front and rear wheels. Debris and leaves can get caught in the axle bearings. Make sure this is not the case. If one of these does not solve the problem, it could be your gear box and you will have to have it serviced by a professional.

Open the plugs on the bottom front of the pump pot and on the pump housing itself. These two plugs will do the pump and just the pump. You should have simmilar plugs on the filter, heater, chlorinator and any other equiptment on the system.
