Question about Acer Aspire 5100-5022 Notebook
My laptop froze totally in the middle of running Windows live Messenger and wouldn't respont to aything - even after running the task manager to close the non responsive programs. I saw the ony way to shut it up being to turn it off . . . . and now it won't turn back on! i press the power button and release; the computer seems to turn on (lights and sounds and everything, though nothing appears on the screen). . for 3 seconds . . before shutting off again. What the heck is going on?
Reseat the memory (unplug it, ensure the contacts are all clean, blow any dust out of the plug, and put it back in). Occasionally poor contact on one of the pins of the memory is the culprit.
You need to do it with both memory modules. Sometimes one is underneith the keyboard... which is more difficult to get at. Get a hold of the manual for your notebook for more instructions on that.

When you are booting up the notebook, keep pressing F8, so as to get into safe mode. When prompted highlight the line ' Last Known Good Configuration' and press enter for a reboot and to take you back into windows as normal. I don't think messenger had anything to do with the problem, so if you aren't even able to get the notebook to get as far as safe mode menu and it just shuts down you may have a processor or motherboard problem, and i would suggest taking to a repairer as laptops can be quite difficult to get up and running after any hardware changes.
