Question about Saniflo 030 Extension Pipe for Installing Sanibest & Saniplus Behind Wall

Open Question

Discharge elbow leaking macerator

Hi I have a Sanitop Broy Pro macerator. The macerator appears to be pumping correctly, but it is leaking from the discharge pipe. I have tightened the jubilee clip that attaches it to the top of the unit, but water keeps leaking from the side of the rubber seal. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

SOURCE: toilet pan installation procedure

Hi muller2012,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: the procedure to join pan to waste pipe without leaking. do i silicone around rubber seal?

In 30 years this is the first time I've heard of a toilet "pan". If you're refering to the bowl, it connects with a wax ring and a pair of bolts. You then caulk around where the bowl meets the floor to keep cleaning liquids from getting under and getting stinky. If this is not a standard toilet it would be a good idea to post pictures and give make and model.

You will probably be able to find a user manual on the above link. It will tell you whether or not there has to be maintenance on this toilet. I doubt it but it is possible. There should also be trouble shooting advice as well. When all else fails, contact the manufacturer. They will be able to tell you what the problem is and guide you in the right direction.

SOURCE: Hi i have a saniplus macerator unit hums but

sounds like an obstructed unit - you would need to remove the impeller cover at the base to check the pump - i'm assuming youve already checked the blade unit at the top (be careful here - i use a screwdriver - not my finger) could be that a simple cleanup and acid descale would be all thats needed. try this first then start looking deeper.Humming indicates motor is ok - but dont let it run continuosly - you dont want to burn out a good motor.

Water keeps flowing back into the macerator

There should be a check valve installed in the discharge elbow, check if the check valve is installed or it might just be stuck open so when waste water is pumped out, it slowly drains back into the unit creating water pressure that is making it kick on and off.

Is not recommended to use 90 degree elbows in the discharge pipe. Is recommended to use 45 degree elbows back to back with a small piece in between or long sweeping elbows. Using hard 90 degree elbows creates resistance in the discharge pipe and does not allow the unit to pump out the waste as efficiently as it should.

Water pressure makes the unit kick on and off. Water could be leaking from the toilet tank into the bowl and from bowl into the pump. Or the check valve inside the discharge elbow (on top of the lid) may not be sitting properly or is being obstructed causing waste water to leak inside the pump, creating enough water pressure to make the unit kick on and off by itself.

Saniflow pump keeps comming on without flushing toilet

Water pressure makes the unit kick on and off. If it's turning on by itself then most likely somehow water is draining back into the pump. It could be leaking water from the toilet tank, to the bowl and from the bowl to the pump. Or the check valve inside the discharge elbow may not be closing all the way down and is allowing waste water to drain back into the pump creating enough water pressure that makes the pump kick on and off. Inspect the flapper on the flush valve and the check valve on the discharge elbow on top of the macerating pump.

Macerator keeps going off even when not flushed.

Water pressure makes the unit turn on and off. It will only activate on it's own when enough water pressure is present. Most likely it can be water leaking from the toilet tank into the bowl, and from the bowl into the pump. Or could also be that waste water is slowly draining back into the pump through the check valve on the discharge elbow, creating enough water pressure that it will make the unit kick on and off.

If you flush the toilet at least 3 times and water does not back up on the toilet then is working. In case the pump fails the pump will fill up about 3 to 4 gallons of water before it overflows or backs up. You can also try disconnecting the discharge pipe off the discharge elbow and place a bucket at the end of the discharge elbow and flush the toilet into the bucket, if water is discharged into the bucket then is working properly.
